drew this one of Moon in her human form! I totally winged it for the outfit, the romper is pretty much unlike anything I'e put her in before and it's inspired by a dress I saw on pinterest, and I can't decide if I like it or not. tried a new method of drawing her hair. I wanted to incorporate some wolf-y stuff since I now have a pinterest board overflowing with inspo for her wolf form, but wasn't feeling it by the time I got to this point in the piece. threw on a quick and dirty background and lighting overlay, and here we are! might revisit this in future:
also note to self: don't use straight white in lighting overlays bc she looks really washed out.
this has been sitting in my drafts for literal months, so I might as well post it now! this one has slightly different stylization of her hair than I usually go for, but it's still cute! can't say as much for the outfit, I have no idea what I was thinking -_-
Finally got a ref sheet for Moon!
I decided to make seperate ref sheets for her different forms so that the sheet wouldn't just be one ungodly huge canvas that my computer would hate me for ;P but I think her other 2 forms will be fine on one sheet, since MH werewolves are basically humans with fur+tails.
I saw a cute design on pinterest for lace-up boots for a furry character, so I copied that design for one of the options, and the other is based on button-up boots. I also decided to give her some cuff options for the front paws. And of course her signature hair beads are in her tail in this form as well!
This is actually my first time designing a fully animal character (feral? that's the term, right?) I have only ever designed humanoids or mlp ponies before. She's based on borzois and greyhounds bc I think those dogs look just weird enough to come off as a convincing monster design. But her face is pretty much all wolf.
Okay I revised the piece a bit. I figured out that by moving the glasses and by having high-contrast stockings but low-contrast sleeves, I was drawing focus away from the face. So I gave her a hair bow and some colorful makeup to try and balance out the colors more.
I like this alot better and I'm glad I revisited it! sometimes talking through a problem is just what you need XP
Can't help feeling like there's something missing from this one, but I still rlly like it! full-length portrait of Moon in her half-wolf form!
the glasses off/ hair up combo might be what's throwing me off, idk. I hope y'all enjoy!
Also I've hinted at the fact that in this AU lycanthropy works different than in canon, and I'm realizing how funny that is.
Like, Clawdeen in my AU cursed herself so she basically gets the best of being a werewolf. Yeah, she has zoomies and bloodlust, but she also has superstrength in her half form and she can shift pretty much whenever she feels like it.
Moon, on the other hand, has a shifting cycle that follows the lunar cycle. So 1/4 of the time she is fully human and one of the only human students at MH. and like 1/8 of the time she's a wholeass giant wolf who can barely fit through classroom doors and insists on doing so anyways because having homework sent to her wolf-sized dorm just doesn't hit the same as going into a classroom and typing her essays with wolf paws.
hiiiiiii :3
Lesbian Pride Moon! there are parts of this design where I also mixed in elements of the sapphic flag. this pride month design was super fun to work on! tbh I'm kind of in a transition phase with my digital art process, trying to work more iteration into the process. If you check my art blog, I actually posted the thumbnail for this piece, working just with color and shape to get her outfit down before I started sketching the pose. I used 3 layers of sketches for this one! the first layer was very basic, I just wanted to hash in the proportions and the motion/angles, the second sketch was more in line w what I normally do on a first sketch for a more stagnant pose, and the final included clothes and cleaner lines. I also did less colored lineart than usual, still deciding how I feel about that. I do rlly like the pose tho, I didn't do that much canvas flipping but I still think it looks nicely balanced!
[ID: digital drawing of Moon, a half wolf girl with light brown skin and dark brown hair in a short afro with 2 long thin braids, wolf ears, a speckled dog nose, and a wagging wolf tail. She is balanced on one leg as the other is kicked out in front of her, she's leaning forward and giving a peace sign with one hand. She has on big round gold glasses, a pink tank top, and a black pleated skirt. She has rainbow kandi on her wrist and tail, silver chains of her tail and neck, and a flower pendant necklace. her leg warmers and mismatched arm warmers all have colors from the lesbian flag. end ID]
tbh, before starting this drawing, I didn't rlly think abt Moon's particular identity beyond there being a character I was thinking of making her gf, so as of today she is a lesbian! This was so fun I might just keep doing these for other characters. I am kind of entertaining the idea of doing Valentine, but I think he would not like wearing his flag colors. I'll figure it out. And maybe I should finally get around to redesigning Deuce so I can make an aro flag design!
tried to make Moon in her human and half-wolf forms on picrew, how do y'all think I did?
(her regular portraits for comparison)
