Mistake in French translation

Poor translations can sometimes lead to misunderstandings, and could even sometimes lead to wars! That's why it is important to learn foreign languages the right way :) A few month ago, an interpreter translated the English word "liberal" pertaining to the terminology used to describe Democrats as "libéral", but... "libéral" in French refers to economic liberalism. In French, "liberal" is translated by "progressif". Something similar happened today. Referring to the New York Times, Trump talked of a "virtual act of treason" which was translated by all French media outlets by "un acte virtuel de trahison", which in French means... nothing. So not only did the journalists write something they misunderstood and meant nothing, but the French must have scratched their heads wondering what the heck it meant. In French, "virtuel" only means "virtual" in the sense of "virtual" (reality) as Jamiroquai used to sing. So at best, the translation would be "an online act of treason" or "an act of treason in virtual reality". So what was the right translation for "a virtual act of treason"? "un quasi acte de trahison". The adverb "virtually" is "quasiment", as in "It's virtually impossible." = "C'est quasiment impossible."
