opportune miscalculations

For all of the complaining and bullshit Sanghyuk was apt to give his superiors, he was surprisingly free and bored today. He sat at one of the empty tables in the main lobby of their department. On a whim, the intern had set his laptop screen to the dimmest setting, which made it difficult to snoop over his shoulders, but his hunched, leaning posture while he rested his cheek against a fist as his free hand steadily pressed the ‘enter’ button repeatedly told many things. To the observer, it signaled either he was truly free of work or was willfully shoving aside all of his responsibilities in favor of the deep, masochistic abyss of boredom. It was likely the later.
A coworker tapped him on the shoulder, but had already slid into the seat across from Sanghyuk when he turned around. He huffed loudly, but appeared reasonably patient as he eyed his fellow intern in the eye. “What is it?”
“There’s someone who wants to meet you,” she answered simply, flipping her own laptop open and immediately letting her fingers fly across the glowing keyboard. “Made a lot of fuss about it up front. Mr. Lee tried to send her away, but she was oddly insistent that you were good friends or something.”
A blatant lie, since Sanghyuk couldn’t recall making recent friends audacious enough to stubbornly summon him from the depths of IT hell. He raised a single brow at the woman. “Is that right?”
She didn’t look up, merely raised an arm and spun a pointed finger in circles like a magic spell that would twirl his seat around to reveal his lucky friend who’d earned his superior’s ire.
When he did, his fashion glasses nearly fell off when he lost all will to hold his head up. “Really?”
He slid out of his chair to weave through passing coworkers before arriving at the receptionist desk and leaning on the corner. How fortunate the secretary was out on her lunch break at the moment. Sanghyuk’s brows knitted together with annoyance, but his mouth was open, ready to curl into a pleased smile at the prospect of possible entertainment. “Is it me or do you have a knack for bothering me at exactly the right time?”
