New Year New Me, Right?
The end of the year is always a crazy time for people. People deal with their families on and around Christmas and then 7 days later they’re making all these “resolutions” that they SWEAR they’ll stick to. mean let’s be real, we all make new year resolutions; even if you don’t you do. The people who don’t want to make one usually say something like “My resolution is not to make one- oh, wow, look I did it”… but here’s the thing… By saying that you aren’t going to make one, you make one. So basically, new year resolutions are inevitable.
Now don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with making new year resolutions- I literally make one every year. Sometimes they’re as simple as “I’m going to try to stop biting my nails” and sometimes there’s so many things that it might as well be a novel of things to change. No matter the resolution, I (among so many others) have a hard time following through with them. It’s like we all work hard for the first month, and then BAM we’re back to our old ways.
Now the whole point of this post isn’t to state the obvious about new year resolutions. No, I’m here to maybe offer some advice on how to REALLY follow through with your resolutions this year. I know you’re probably thinking, “Um didn’t you just say that you almost never follow through with them?” and you’re right. I do have a hard time, but I think that this year will be different because of these two tips.
1. Write down your resolution I know it sounds silly but do it. Write it down in your planner, write it down in your notes on your phone. Just write it down.
2. Tell people your resolution Literally tell everyone. Tweet it. Post it on Facebook. Do whatever, but make sure to get it out there. The more people you tell, the more people to hold you accountable to sticking to it.
I know that I have already wrote down my resolutions (yeah, it’s a novel year) in a new 2017 planner I bought. Its right there in the front so when I open the front cover, there it is. I plan on rewriting it every month so that I can’t forget them. When the new year actually hits us, I plan on tweeting, Facebooking, and making a video about my resolutions. The key to keeping your resolution (or so I’ve heard) is making sure it’s always around you; making sure that you see it, hear it, or talk about it every day.
I hope that this advice helps you!
Have a safe New Years Eve and a great New Year!
xoxo Samantha
