1. the character everyone gets wrong

listen i have soooooo many possible answers to this question (viktor nikiforov & yuuri katsuki, astarion, gansey, steve harrington) but i think it surprises no one to hear i take the most umbrage w interpretations of maia drazhar that don't interact with his internal conflicts other than his anxiety and flinch responses. maia has a bitterness in him, and an anger, and a great chill—and the real triumph is that he fights those impulses every second, and very often wins that fight! and personally, that's where the core of his character and his story are, and why they're so important. bc we all have bitterness and anger and dark corners that rise up to vie for predominance, and it's so hard to remember that those voices aren't us, and that they don't make us bad for the fact of their existence. nor is there such a thing as inherent goodness, because Kindness is a moment to moment choice, and it's often a hard one!! i pitch this book to ppl as a story about kindness as praxis for a reason.

a lot of rhetoric, however, reduces maia to an uwu cinnamon roll! and to me that is just so reductive lmao, like that guy wouldn't enjoy that assessment of his character either ahdjfjd

also a very solid answer. I don’t wear too much jewelry on a day to day basis because of my work (anything other than earrings is probably a hazard on site) but I do love it and being as gaudy as possible on the weekends. WITCH FASHION FOREVER.

I think we’re all doing as well as we possibly can be, but it’s been hard, you know? but we’re doing our best and at least we somehow managed to take work/school off at the same time so we’re all together in a place that means a lot to us (the beach) tonight and all tomorrow. my brother wrote that this beach was his favorite place in all the world/we all unanimously decided to scatter his ashes here, so this is where he feels the closest.

and esp. thanks for all your good thoughts and kind words all of this last year. I know I’ve had a dark time and people don’t often know what to say when someone is dealing with grief and suicide so I can’t tell you how much they helped. you’re a good soul, Rachel. I’m so happy to be friends.

IT’S BEEN A REAL WEIRD WEEK HERE, RACHEL. a (mostly) good one but weird as hell. I came home friday night and passed out for 13 hours because even my body was like, “okay kid. time to be done with this nonsense”.
