Gradblr Challenge | Week 3, Day 16 | 100 DOP 12/100

Had some very exciting news today! One of the contacts I e-mailed yesterday replied this afternoon to accept my request for an interview. This is going to provide a big break in my dissertation chapter and I am actually excited about the prospect of presenting this research. For once.

Today I:

Updated the department about my e-mail change.

Read through a script that was forwarded to me in preparation for my interview. I have taken down informal notes, but need to translate those into tangible questions.

Read some information on formatting CVs so that I can revamp mine.

Started reading through some of the books that have been collecting dust on my shelf since comps.

Tomorrow I:

Need to buy groceries. Not academic, but it needs to get done before the wave of new students flood town!

Start editing my CV

Finish skimming the book I started.

Make light edits to my Galatea chapter.

Currently watching: Adventure Time (getting hyped for the finale!)

Currently reading: Shakesqueer (for school) and Bruja Born (for myself.)

Weekly Spread for 9.17.18 - 9.22.18

Autumn is finally here! I’ve been a bit MIA for the past few weeks because I’m swamped with work to grade, work to write. Work, work, work, work. I could already use a vacation, to be honest.

But the silver lining to this week was all the wonderful cartoons on Netflix and a little autumn date with my partner. I’m ready for a slow, chill week, but with midterms around the corner I know that’s unlikely haha

Gradblr Challenge | Week 3 Day 15 | 100 DOP 11/100

Yesterday, I reorganized my desk space so that it is much more inviting to work at. While I didn’t get around to everything I wanted to do, I am feeling invigorated and ready to accomplish a lot.

Finished tasks:

called IT to request an e-mail name change

drafted a solid template for requesting interviews

made a list of tasks to achieve before the MLA JIL goes live

gathered resources for updating my CV

found more sources for my Galatea section

Ongoing:

get feedback on my Twelfth Night section

add new sources to Galatea

update all of my log-in information when my e-mail updates

send out interview requests

take notes on CV formatting

Personal tasks:

play more Sims 4 for my LP

doodle in a sketchbook

Aimed for soft transition vibes between summer and fall for last week’s art journal. I love taking my time to build the layouts for this planner day-by-day as opposed to setting up a spread once at the beginning of the week. It encourages me to check in with myself at the beginning and end of each day and it will be a good memory-keeping practice throughout the year.

This week’s spread is my send off to one of my favorite shows: Adventure Time. I’m very emotional about the series finale airing tomorrow! Especially after the Comic-Con panel earlier in the summer, I just know that I am going to be a blubbering mess. At least there’s no school!

For this week’s spread, I made a conscious decision to remove my graph trackers. I wasn’t keeping up with them and that ALWAYS stresses me out. So instead, I added a quote and a goals section.

I am trying to exercise kindness to myself regarding my dissertation by focusing on fewer, specific tasks to achieve by the end of the week. My hope is that this will help me move forward little by little.

Gradblr Challenge | Week 3 Day 20 | 100 DOP 15/100

Yesterday was rough. Even though I have breakthrough ideas and resources, I am feeling so overwhelmed about implementing them into my existing drafts. I constantly feel like my drafts need to be overhauled and it sets me back so much every time.

So I’m trying a different approach. I’ve formally scheduled two hours of dissertation work every night (minus Saturday’s, because everyone needs a night off.) I hate rigid schedules. But I need to change something in order to get back on track with everything.

Here’s my focus for today:

outline my proposal for changing these two chapters

go over one chunk of feedback with my partner

log what new sources need to be added

continue cleaning the apartment & my brushes

watch DuckTales! and self-care with makeup

Can you tell I’m excited about the Sweetener release? haha Prepare for a lot of Ariana Grande in my planner pages this week, because I have a set of digital spreads going out every day this week to get back on track for fall semester.

I have a lot that needs to get done this week - wish me luck!

Playing around in Notability to create text stickers for GoodNotes. I’m sure I could do something similar with Vectornator, but I’ll need t play around with all of my apps to see what is the easiest way to do this for my planner.

I love ho the combination looks though! I wouldn’t do it for every scrap of writing in my planner, but it’s nice for the elements you want to stand out.
