Repost from @dwellmagazine For about the cost of a sedan, engineer Juan Pablo Delgado of Chile-based @estudiodiagonal.arq built this matte-black cabin in a forest in La Unión. The site, which is tucked away near his parents’ house, has no vehicular access and only a couple walking paths, but its remote and wild feel (and its proximity to existing utility lines) inspired Delgado to buy the land and craft the minimalist, low-budget retreat with his partner, architect Sebastián Armijo. “The purpose was to create a comfortable place to spend the night that took advantage of the natural surroundings and view without too much site intervention,” explain the duo, who, over the course of four months, constructed Refugio 3x3 by hand-carrying materials to the site. Covered in zinc-aluminum sheets painted black, the structure has a mysterious quality that beckons with a red door. “It calls your attention, inviting you to see what is inside,” say the duo.
