The sound of boots crunching underneath the snow could be heard. As they came to a halt, a steady voice could be heard.
“Ms. Shemira, Mr. Niru. May I have a word with you two, about your son?” Those are words you never wanted to hear in the same sentence. The captain seemed to aware of this so he kept going, “Rest Assured, he’s not in any trouble. He’s actually a very good kid. You two raised him. Well I came here to inquire about your son being part of a local play. Please let me explain.”
“Recently, there’s been a discussion of a children’s playing in the works. The children are going to be performing a production about a prince, his companion from the gods, and his loyal knights saving the kingdom from a dragon summoned by an evil wolf king. Yes, I am planning to ask Faramor if he’s willing to play the role of the Wolf king. This play is being planned, it has not been worked on yet. There are some details we have to finish. Now…The play is being called The Protectors of Dusklight. That was the name the children voted on. The kids involved were hoping to ask Daimon if he would be willing to play the prince and his friend Stitchy would be the Guardian. The play will be held in the town Square. I am overseeing this play as Orla, the girl I am taking care of, is playing a supporting character. She’s playing the forest witch. I am very proud of her.”
He cleared his throat before continuing.
“Now, some of the adults wanted to know if it would be alright by you if he could be a part of the play? They understand you and your family haven’t been living in Whiteridge. You have moved here recently and some of them understand the pain of moving to a new location, and how hard it can be to make new friends. One of the parents, who is part of the costume and design team, a mother of two kids, offered to make the costume for Daimon and for Stitchy, like she’s doing for the rest of the children. I told her it would likely not be necessary, but I would let you know that offer was made out of compassion.”
Though no one could see through his helmet, he was very calm. He was also understanding as expected of the guard captain of Whiteridge. It was likely he was also asking because it’s very likely Orla also wants to be friends with Daimon.
“If Daimon does not wish to attend or if neither of you feel comfortable with him being on stage, I understand and will deliver the news back to the kids and to the parents. I would just like to know your thoughts and inquire.”
"Thank you for informing us, Sir Rodrigo. The idea sounds good, but... are you sure you want a Graveborn and a giant doll to join in a play? 'Some adults' aren't all of them."
"Ah, my love, there's no need to worry. If anything happens, we can always trust Rodrigo. He won't let anything harm our child."
"Very well. Please wait a moment for us to ask Daimon. It's best that we hear his words on this."
*Shemira goes inside, and when she returns, Daimon follows her. She then explains the case to the boy.*
"You mean... people want me to join in the play? And Stitchy can join in too?"
"I would love to join this! Thank you, sir!"
