2019 MORLAND WRITING SCHOLARSHIPS  

Miles Morland Foundation has announced the 2019 Morland Writing Scholarships for African writers will start receiving entries on the 30th of June, 2019. The closing deadline is 30th September, 2019.

Miles Morland Foundation was set up by Miles Morland in 2013 with a major aim of supporting Africans and allowing their voices to be heard, particularly through literature.

I had some ramblings of mine featured in this all to great anthology that was released yesterday unto the world. I feel a great sense of kinship finally having my weirdness perfectly placed in an anthology of other weirdnesses!

Day 2: Song of Lawino, by Okot p'Bitek (7th June 1931–20th July 1982) |Uganda Song of Lawino was published in 1966, and is a narrative poem that describes how Lawino's husband, Ocol, the son of the tribal leader of the Acoli tribe, has a new white wife,Clementine. It was originally written in Acholi, and self-translated in to English "I lived for double English lessons in high school. That's when we'd read and analyse work by African authors. Yesterday, I watched the beautifully shot “The Art of Ama Ata Aidoo,” a film by Yaba Badoe. It was a moving portrayal of the evolution of Ama Ata Aidoo’s genius and art and let us in on the fiction writer-poet-playwright’s very human struggles as a writer. It left me with a lot to mull over—the role of the writer, woman as writer, Africa’s complicated relationship with her diaspora and how we (places like Ghana, especially) haven’t dealt with the horrors of our past.
