does cats like leaders and deputies know about the aftergathering? because if they did (since technically the aftergathering is frowned up) couldn’t one of them just command all their cats to go back home with them and not stay late? that’s like completely possible.

Yes they know about it. It's not a secret, cats just say "I'm gonna stay late"

They do not live in a police state, you have the right to not be in camp when there isn't work to do

Yes they could hypothetically command their entire clan to leave all together but they are clan cats, not twoleg dogs. They do not live in a state of constant surveillance and they do not hold warriors on a leash. There is no proof they're not just hanging out.

Doing this would make a leader look insecure and controlling at best, unless they had a good reason to suspect an individual cat was staying to break rules, but if that was the case then why did they pick the cat to go to the Gathering at all? Mind games? They could do this but WHY.

I don't understand how this isn't making sense. This isn't cat jail where the inmates all return to their cells after State-Enforced Social Time is over. You Can Stay Late When The Party Is Over.

do clerics ever stay at aftergatherings?

It's pretty rare they do, as they are authority figures much like a leader or deputy, but they have more wiggle room.

If they do, it's usually to discuss something important. Like a Halfclan surrogacy, or a health complication of honor sired kits. The Cleric MUST be chill with this though, a strict one is COMPLETELY within their rights to fuck the couple over and call it a void of the Queen’s Rights.

Goosefeather, Littlecloud, and Sagewhisker would have all been tattletails. Yellowfang, Featherwhisker, Mudfur, and Spottedleaf aren't snitches.

Featherwhisker probably stayed at these a lot, tbh. That feels right for him.

Do they tell stories of cats who've past in the Aftergathering? Like Firestar, after his assassination?

Of course! They talk about everything, really. It's also one of the only times you can really be honest about your feelings.

If you didn't LIKE the guy, you can just come out and say it. "I'm glad that softhearted kittypet is gone. I was so sick of his high-pitched voice and awful jokes."

And likewise, people can come back with, "Get killed and die."

It depends a lot on the cats who are present. The uniting theme of all Aftergatherings is that they are inherently casual events. You can talk about subjects that are taboo in good company, like dead leaders, Clan politics, inter-Clan conflict, so on.

Firepaw and Greypaw at an Aftergathering though!!

It would be at their first gatherings as warriors! Apprentices may not stay for the Aftergathering, it's warriors-only. Adult party.

They would totally get asked to tell the story of the ShadowClan coup, everyone would want the juicy deets. Graystripe would eat it right up and have a great time, he seems like he'd adore the attention.

For a brief moment, Fireheart would really feel like he belongs. This is before he's totally accepted by ThunderClan, remember, so this would be one of the first times in his life that he isn't being reminded that he's still an outsider.
