2016 has truly been a year chalked full of celebrity deaths. Just as we begin to deal with the loss of one of these beloved people another exits this world. This time our hearts are truly saddened by the loss of “The People’s Champion,” Muhummad Ali.  Originally born as Cassius Marcellus Clay, the boxing champ denounced his birth name as his “slave name,” when he converted to Islam and affiliated with the Nation of Islam in 1964; and called himself “The Greatest!”

Muhummad Ali is known to the world at large for a stellar boxing career where he remains the sole three-time lineal world heavyweight champion; winning the title in 1964, 1974, and 1978. Between February 25, 1964 and September 19, 1964, he reigned as the undisputed heavyweight boxing champion. However it should be noted and known he was heavily involved in civil rights activism, working closely with Malcolm X and an opponent of the Vietnam War and draft.  These actions and his general outspokenness could have proven to be his demise in a time when being Black and strong was viewed as death wish.

Ali died Friday night from respiratory complications at a Phoenix-area hospital where he had been receiving treatment for a few days. He was 74. He battled Parkinson’s Disease for nearly 32 years. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family now and always. As you may recall, his daughter, Laila Ali, followed in his footsteps and had an impressive career in her own right. Thankfully, he has lots of descendants and we are sure one of them will take up the fight. Rest In Peace, Mr. Ali, you are now, and will always be “The Greatest of All Time!”

R.I.P. To One Of The Best TV Entertainers Of All-Time, Sherman Hemsley.

Sherman Hemsley, who played George Jefferson on "All in the Family" and "The Jeffersons," has died Tuesday at the age of 74, his booking agent said.

Hemsley played Jefferson, a wisecracking owner of a dry cleaning business, on "All In the Family" from 1973 until 1975, when the spinoff "The Jeffersons" began an 11-season run on CBS.

Police in El Paso, Texas, where Hemsley lived, said there was no evidence of foul play. The cause of death will be determined through an autopsy, according to a news release.
