Someone on my street died...

I didn't know him too well. It was maybe 2, 3 hours ago I last saw him before the paramedics arrived. It's kind of surreal, the way that I realize his existence had, in no way affected me thus far. Now, I regress into a pitied state, struggling to stand as my body and mind fly through, into an unknown region. My closest friends were with me, and it was only that reality which held me together. Held me together in this crazy linear dimension we, as self-conscious beings, must survive within. In this place, we are led onward by a merciful, indifferent, omnipotent force. A force unable to do anything but press forward, no matter how you struggle to go back to where you were. But it matters not. I am where I am and will only go where I will go. Same as that person who just died. Poor, poor John MacDonald, dying at the ripe old age of 89. Who would have thought that if an old man died -
