AU where Shane picks up this gold necklace he finds in the park - it’s got a cross on it, and it looks expensive. He posts up a sign at a local grocery store and ends up talking to a guy called Ilya, who sends a photo with him wearing the necklace as proof.

And then over time they keep hanging out, and fall in love, and get together.

Then the day before their wedding, Shane has a dream about a woman with blonde hair and a familiar smile, and when he wakes up and tells Ilya, his soon-to-be-husband’s eyes widen.

‘That was my mama,’ he says, because the details Shane’s sharing are so specific, but they’re ones Ilya never shared and he couldn’t have known them from the sparse photos Ilya managed to save.

Shane’s eyes widen too. ‘Really?’

‘I think so, yes. I don’t know how it is possible, but. What happened next?’

‘She said that she was glad her necklace worked, and then smiled at me. And then I woke up.’

And then Ilya immediately bursts into tears, because he had suspected for a long time that Irina had sent Shane to him, and this was the best evidence there had ever been that it was true.
