hi! i’m back after a while and happy to announce my first writing piece of 2022 starring the maknae of VANNER. anyways, finally got the chance to see the boys in concert and were amazing! also finally got around to writing for them due to the 1on1 session they had which inspired me to write this. lol boys got me so flustered, but anyways, i combined mine and my sister’s experiences to get these to be written out. i’m planning doing all the members, but i dunno when that’ll be released and so enjoy this one with Yeongkwang! also check out VANNER as they do not disappoint! and to those that have seen them live or are a VVS, go you! but yeah, so happy reading and kthxbai, Admin Lia~
"Why are we here again?"
Danbi glanced at one of her roommates and friends, Chorong, while making an indifferent face at the large crowd all around them filled with other students and some faculty members. The pair entered their university's auditorium where one of their school's fraternity was holding an event.
"You're serious?" Chorong questioned as Danbi nodded, clueless.
Chorong sighed before speaking again.
"You need to participate in Beta Nu's 1on1 event, Choo Danbi."
"Why?"
"Because you're part of Beta Beta Sigma."
"Mmhmm. And your point is, Myung Chorong?"
"We're the sister sorority of the said fraternity."
"Yeah, I know that, but so what?"
Chorong sighed while casting her friend with a firm look.
"Did you forget that you're missing some necessary activities for this semester?"
Realization finally dawned on Danbi.
"Oh, right, I do."
"C'mon."
Chorong linked arms with Danbi with a playful smile.
"It'll be fun."
"Do I have to?"
"Yes you do because if you participate in at least one of Beta Nu's various booths for tonight's event, then Bae Bitna will let you off the hook for the rest of the school year."
Danbi sighed while nodding.
"Fine."
"Great. I know the perfect booth that will get you actual proof of participation."
"Which is?"
"Don't worry about it. Guseul and Boram messaged me earlier about the booth to get you off the hook."
Danbi frowned, not liking the mischievous expression that graced Chorong's face as well as hearing the two names of their other two equally as mischievous roommates and friends' suggestion either. Danbi knew procrastinating about her activities was gonna mess with her later more than she would have liked it back then.
"I can't believe I let them talk me into doing this."
Despite appearing nonchalant and aloof about the whole thing, Danbi actually felt nervous as she once again slowly scanned her surroundings while waiting in the semi-long line of Beta Nu's member, Ahn Yeongjun, to take a Polaroid with him. Apparently to Boram, Guseul, and Chorong, taking photos with her crush was the best idea to fill her Beta Beta Sigma's activity quotas, compared to the other activities that the fraternity also had going on simultaneously.
"I would've been fine with them taking a picture of me with the cut-outs instead of the actual person, but no, I have to take it with the real one for more authenticity."
She tsked.
"Yeah, right. They just love messing with me."
Danbi sighed for the nth time since lining up as she had hoped to make a run for it the second she got the chance to. Unfortunately her friends kept watch so Danbi focused her attention onto Yeongjun as she watched the male pose for the Polaroid camera alongside another schoolmate. She admired the male since their high school days and despite having some of the same classes as him since attending Wi Tae University, too, Danbi never pursued any sort of relationship with Yeongjun except as schoolmates. She felt too out of his league.
"Shit. I'm almost next." Danbi muttered when she moved closer in the line.
It would be Danbi's turn after this person as she unconsciously ran a hand through her hair before patting it down to look presentable. Danbi calmly and slowly inhaled and exhaled while psyching herself up that she 'got this' and telling herself that 'it'll be over soon'. It shouldn't take that long to do anyway. Once she got her Polaroid as proof for participating in Beta Nu's 1on1 event tonight, Danbi wouldn't have to bother doing more sorority activities for the rest of the year.
"Choo Danbi, fighting!" She softly cheered for herself before taking her turn after the person left with their Polaroid, satisfied.
"Oh, hey." The person, Kim Yoonkwan, greeted Danbi with a friendly smile.
"Didn't expect to see you here."
"Hi and yeah, me, too."
Danbi chuckled sheepishly.
"Ticket?"
"Oh, yeah, here you go."
She presented him with a ticket used for the 1on1 event. Her friends had given it to her upon meeting up earlier. Danbi totally forgot about it.
"Okay. Now pick a pose." Yoonkwan said while showing her the board that had three poses she could choose from.
"Um, C."
Danbi and Yoonkwan both turned to face Yeongjun as Danbi went to stand by him while Yoonkwan informed Yeongjun of the chosen pose.
"Okay, C. Got it." Yeongjun re-confirmed with a smile and a thumbs up before casting a wider smile at Danbi.
"Hi, hello."
"Hello."
She smiled in return while scooting slightly closer to the male so that the both of them could be in the frame. Danbi didn't really care if Yeongjun knew of her or even remembered her, but the close proximity made her all the more nervous as she felt her heartbeat against her chest. Danbi immediately held her breath when she saw Yeongjun's hand come into view as he got into the 'C' position of doing the finger-gun-charismatic smile pose near her chin while her body involuntarily turned towards him as her head stayed facing away from Yeongjun.
"Okay, let's go." Yoonkwan announced before counting down.
Danbi silently panicked as she lifted her hands to do some type of pose because she couldn't recall if she was supposed to do something in return or not. She glanced at the board, but it was too small and blurry for her to confirm the pose she needed to do. So, upon lifting her arms with her palms facing upwards, her right index finger accidentally grazed Yeongjun's left biceps. Danbi instantly moved her hands away, but this only caused her to realize just how close they were when her fingertips skimmed across his shirt and just left her hands where they were. Danbi smiled as normal as possible, hoping that her panicked state wasn't captured just now.
"Three, two, one. Done!"
Danbi stepped back without hesitation and quietly released the breath she was holding in as she thanked Yeongjun for his time. He smiled and thanked her in return for participating. Danbi took one step towards Yoonkwan to collect her Polaroid, but stopped upon hearing Yeongjun asking a question.
"Did you have fun?"
"Hmm?" She hummed, but nodded right after with a small smile.
"Uh, yes."
She faced him with a slight smile.
"Did you?"
"Mmhmm."
Yeongjun nodded and cast her that same wide smile of his despite not showing any teeth. She always found that more appealing than the usual open-mouthed smiles. Danbi gave Yeongjun a small head bow and a small smile while turning back to Yoonkwan to collect her Polaroid.
"Thank you."
"Welcome. Now, one more pose." Yoonkwan suddenly announced just as Danbi was about to step away.
"One more pose?"
Her brows furrowed as Yoonkwan nodded.
"Mmhmm."
He held up the ticket she gave him to show her that it consisted of two instead of one.
"Oh."
She figured she didn't notice due to her nerves. She should've double checked. Danbi glanced over at Yeongjun with a polite smile.
"Uh, you can choose."
Danbi gave Yeongjun the option to choose another pose for them to do. He informed his friend without any hesitation.
"A."
Danbi's eyes swiftly swept over the board to double check what she had to do for Pose A now that she was closer than she was earlier. Her eyes widened at the image and tried to remain calm and collected as she had to complete Yeongjun's half of a hand-heart. Still, why did he say this one so confidently? Anyways, Danbi thought that this one didn't seem so bad compared to Pose C.
"Okay." She told herself as she stepped closer to Yeongjun, not as nervous as before.
The two share a quick smile just as Yeongjun immediately set up for the pose like before while Danbi watched his left hand form his half of a hand-heart. She raised her right arm while forming the other half so she could match Yeongjun's hand better for a nicer looking hand-heart. She previously watched the others that did this pose with Yeongjun, make not so great of a hand-heart and didn't want hers to turn out like theirs. Danbi placed her left arm behind her while holding onto the recent photo, awaiting to be developed. Yoonkwan counted down once more as he snapped the photo.
"Alright, done!"
Once again, Danbi instantly took a step back while thanking Yeongjun once more.
"Thank you and good job tonight."
Danbi had no idea why she even said that last part, but figured it to be reasonable to say due to him and the others participating in the Polaroid Booth, having to pose constantly with however many people that came by to do it. Yeongjun chuckled softly as he thanked her again, staring at her with a soft look. She turned away, feeling shy with the way he looked at her just now to face Yoonkwan, awaiting for her second Polaroid.
"Okay, here you go."
Danbi accepted the second photo from Yoonkwan, thanking him. She quickly turned her attention onto Yeongjun with a friendly smile.
"Anyways, buh bye and thanks."
Danbi needed to go before she grew even more flustered by the male and not wanting to take up any more of his time when the line grew longer.
"Ah, wait, Danbi."
He suddenly called out to her as she nonchalantly turned back to face him.
"Hmm?"
She realized he had called her name. Yeongjun shot her that same charming closed-mouth smile of his at her.
"I'll see you later?"
Danbi's brows furrowed. She wasn't sure what Yeongjun had meant by that. After this she was gonna go back to the dorms and sleep unless the other three had other ideas. Also, his words sounded more like a question than a statement. Just as Danbi was about to reply, the next person told her to hurry up and leave since she was done taking her photos so that they could have their turn, too. Danbi quickly glared at the person for being rude before facing Yeongjun again with an apologetic expression.
"Um, sorry, Yeongjun, but have a good night."
She rushed off, not bothering to hear his response or to see his reaction.
"Can I go back to the dorm now?" Danbi asked in a slightly whiny tone.
She and the other three have been all over the auditorium in less than an hour, visiting and participating in the other booths of Beta Nu's 1on1 event. Well, more like them than her as they dragged Danbi along with them.
"This is the last one. Promise." Guseul told her with a smile as Danbi scoffed.
"Sure it is."
The quartet came upon the booth where four basketball arcade stalls were set up. Four people could play at a time with two matches going on with two members of the fraternity against two non-members. Danbi shot the other three with a knowing look.
"Y'all don't even play games let out sports."
"We know, but you do." Boram countered with a playful look.
"So, we signed you up."
"What? Why?"
"Bitna said that you needed another event and that the Polaroid Booth wasn't enough." Chorong explained as Danbi's jaws dropped.
"Seriously?"
"Mmhmm."
"Alright, our next set of players are Choo Danbi versus Ahn Yeongjun!" A Beta Nu member announced which prompted the trio to push Danbi closer to the front.
She stumbled over her feet before clashing against another body. Luckily, the pair didn't fall over and the person steadied the both of them.
"Are you alright?"
Danbi immediately recognized the voice as Yeongjun. She became alert and took a few steps back.
"Yeah and I'm sorry."
"It's okay."
Yeongjun cast her with a friendly smile. He tilted his head towards the basketball games.
"Ready to play?"
"Sure"
Danbi soon recalled his words from earlier and figured this is what he had meant about seeing her later. She really needed to get her friends to stop meddling in with her love life for sure. Danbi regretted telling them about her feelings for Yeongjun.
"And the winner is our Yeongjun by ten points!"
The onlookers cheered for Yeongjun while Chorong, Boram, and Guseul comforted Danbi although she didn't mind at all.
"Good game, Yeongjun." Danbi told him as Yeongjun smiled.
"Good game to you too, Danbi."
"Anyways, hav-"
Boram interrupted Danbi.
"Please take care of her tonight."
She basically shoved Danbi into Yeongun's arms. Danbi glared at her friend after Yeongjun helped steady her once more.
"I have a date with Changsun. Bye!"
Boram ran off with the other two following after her, making a similar excuse. Danbi just stared at her friends' retreating figures, knowing this was all because of her procrastination.
"So..."
Came Yeongjun's voice, breaking Danbi from out of her thoughts. She turned to face him, not realizing he had maneuvered them off to the side and out of the way of the others.
"Um, it's okay. They were just joking." Danbi explained, not wanting to force Yeongjun to do something he didn't want to do.
"I was planning on going back to the dorms."
"Oh."
Yeongjun sounded dejected.
"So you don't like me."
"Oh, no. I do like you, but I don't want to make you do something that you don't want to do."
Danbi didn't realize she had just admitted to Yeongjun that she liked him. She cast him with a small smile as the smile on Yeongjun's face widened, almost teasing-like.
"So, you do like me?"
"Mmhmm."
She nodded nonchalantly until it dawned on her. She immediately stopped nodding while taking a step back with a sheepish laugh.
"Yeah, so, I'm just gonna go now."
Yeongjun reacted faster and took her hand in his, preventing Danbi from leaving.
"Ah, wait. Please."
Danbi stared at their held hands with Yeongjun releasing it later.
"Um, sorry about that."
"No, um, it's fine."
Danbi slowly moved her hands behind her back out of shyness rather than being uncomfortable while facing Yeongjun yet her eyes looked anywhere and everywhere, but him. He observed her with a small smile before speaking.
"Have you eaten yet?"
"No." Danbi replied as she now looked at him.
"Have you?"
Yeongjun shook his head.
"Wanna get something to eat?"
Danbi was about to decline, but paused instead. She actually thought about it, wondering if this was a good idea or not. She decided to just go with the flow for right now and would deal with it later.
"Yeah, sure."
Yeongjun flashed her that smile of his and Danbi thought for a second on changing her mind, but he didn't give her that chance when he offered his hand out to her for her to take.
"Let's go. There's his new place that just opened a month ago."
"Okay."
Danbi tentatively placed her hand in his and soon felt the warmth his grip held as he firmly took a hold of hers. With a slight tug, Danbi followed alongside Yeongjun as the two kept some distance between them before a comfortable conversation began between them.
