     “So, now they’re handing out lightsabers to just about anyone, I see.” Zella eyed the saber in the woman’s hand. Keeping her captor occupied was key until she formulated a plan of escape, and the wheels were already turning.

     “You know, I got a hold of one of those once; had a grand old time swinging it around. Isn’t that about how much training you had? Just playing pretend, like a child?”

"There's a spider in the shower!"

Rey stopped with a chip halfway in her mouth, eyes widening at Aia’s loud exclamation. She had dealt with uptight soccer moms, grubby bastards, and Plutt on a bad day at the shop, but none of that had prepared her for dealing with the disgusting absurdity that must have been in her bathroom. None of her customers had eight legs or eyes, and they certainly didn’t bite...at least in theory. Maybe it was better to just let Aia deal with it herself.

“...so?” she said blankly, “Can’t you handle it? It’s...just a spider! Use toilet paper, squish it...or something.”

“You haven’t slept for days, have you?”

Rey isn’t sure what her giveaway is, given that there are so many warning signs to chose from. There’s the dark circles, the shaking, the pale skin and the tear tracks that seem almost permanent on her cheeks; any one of these could give her away to the Knight standing in her doorway. But perhaps it’s the way her blankets are in a lump at the foot of her cot and her pillow is nowhere to be seen that really ties it all together; that, and she’s curled up against the wall with grit teeth and white knuckles.

“H-He’s in my head.” she chokes out. Hopefully that is an answer enough. “He won’t leave me alone. I don’t...I don’t understand. I’ve been doing everything right.”

Snoke. It was Snoke who wouldn’t let her sleep. It’s as if she can feel him creeping in to every pore, every crevice of her life. She’s afraid that it will look weak if she tells Kylo about it, but she’s almost certain this is not what her training was supposed to be like. She’s strong with the force, she’s listened to everything she’s been instructed to do, and still he won’t depart. 

It worries her that maybe it’s because she’s still inadequate, but has been afraid to mention it under the guise that all the Knights experienced the same thing.

∰  –  ;;    this was the first time the apprentice had had the chance to spend time with any knight alone, her master aside; and to be entirely honest, there was no part of her that expected it to be like this. not that she was complaining, really; the woman whose guard was truly admirable, whose presence was a force to be reckoned with, was now justifying her incoherent mumbling in what could only be described as a laughable defense.

       “i– is that so.” the pantoran asked, although it was less of a question and more of a ridiculously amused statement. laughter tainted her words, threatening to break through her strict composure. this was utterly priceless.
