got an email yesterday saying that the aimovig injection I take for migraine is going to change its copay/coupon card cost from $5/month to $49/month.
I've been taking it for 5 years.
5 years = 60 months. 60 months at $5/month = $300 total.
Now? What I can expect to spend for 2026 alone is nearly twice that amount.
1 year = 12 months. 12 months at $49/month = $588.
With no warning other than this one email. The cost isn't changing from $5 to something reasonable like $10 or $15. But to $50 after at least 5 years of staying the same price.
I can't believe I have to pay a monthly subscription service to not have migraine. And I still have migraines! The aimovig reduced them from 15x/month to averaging about 5x/month and I am over the moon about it, because living with that much pain is untenable, and I can't go back.
(And there is only one other drug with similar effects on the market, but my doctor doesn't want me to switch to it yet, because she knows from other patients that my tolerance to aimovig will eventually go down to the point of it no longer working and then I'll have to switch to the other thing. Considering I can expect to have migraine for the rest of my life, she's trying to maximize my ability to use medication.)
