maekar’s daughter!reader who was raised with both books and swords and now refuses to marry a man that cannot disarm her (valarr’s daily motivation btw)
Say about Maekar what you want, but he certainly never threw his boy into the air and caught him again to celebrate a tug of war they won together like a proud father.

The birds cheep, their sweet morning song flowing in through the dingy inn window, making your eyes blink open. Greeted by the early morning sun's warmth on your face, you squint and rub your eyes, stirring to get a hold of your surroundings.
That's when you come to realise a different kind of warmth, the one radiating from the giant man draped on top of you, snoring away with his cheek squashed into your chest.
The sight alone brings a smile to your face, and you extend a hand to gently brush Dunk's messed hair back into place. He looks so beautiful like this. Peaceful, unburdened of the many sorrows that pain him.
A rumbling hum emanating from his chest breaks you out of your thoughts. Pale eyelashes flutter as his eyes crack open, and his vibrant blue eyes- dimmed by sleep, stare back at you, immediately crinkling as a tired yet lovesick smile takes over Dunk's pretty face.
"Good morrow, lovely." his voice murmurs, roughened by sleep. He shifts, nuzzling closer into the skin of your neck, his strong arms pulling you tighter towards him.
Your smile widens as you chuckle adoringly, "Good Morrow, my love." You cup his jaw, bringing his gaze up to meet your warm one. Dunk leans into your touch, eyes closing again for a moment before he's moving to sit up beside you, pulling you into his side with his arm over your shoulders.
"Did you sleep well?" His gruff voice sounds, a twinge of concern visible in his handsome features. You know he felt guilty. Ever since you joined him and Egg in their travels, he has tried his utmost best to provide your small group with the most comfort he can afford, considering what little money he has.
A tiny inn was the most frequent place you three would visit to rest your heads, instead of under trees like before. It's not like he didn't try his best with just Egg accompanying him, but your presence and your chiding to 'let himself and Egg have nice things once in a while' made him want to give you and his squire the best life he could.
Your face morphs into a gentle scolding look, as if you know just what's going on in his head, but you decide not to comment on it. Instead, you scoff softly, voice fond. "I should be the one asking you that. Half your limbs don't even fit onto this bed."
Dunk rolls his eyes and smiles, the tips of his ears reddening as he ducks his head, his eyes flitting over to where Egg was sleeping- on a separate cot a few feet away.
"Boy's been dead tired of late" he hums.
"Mhm, he's worked hard yesternight, I saw him training. Deserves the rest." You murmur in agreement. You only knew the little prince for a few months, but he held a precious place in your heart, just as he did in Dunk's, too.
You squeeze Dunk's arm, drawing his attention back to you as you noticed his thoughts start to drift back into the heavy weight of all his responsibilities and duties.
"You alright?" You ask softly, eyes searching his for a hint of something for you to soothe away. Your beloved only smiles and shakes his head, leaning down to press a sweet kiss to your temple. "S'nothing of importance." You huff and are about to complain when he kisses you, soft and sleepy, driving the words out out of your mind.
You kiss him back, just as loving, one hand coming to rest on his chest when-
"Quite the unsightly start to my day, I must say, Ser." Egg pipes up, now sitting up on his cot with a judgmental grimace gracing his young, sleep-ridden features.
You immediately pull back, cheeks warming in embarrassment as your gaze flies to set on Egg with an awkward smile. It isn't often you're openly affectionate with Dunk in front of the boy, apart from some hand-holding and child-friendly PDA.
Dunk just sighs, closing his eyes in an attempt to gather himself, before pulling away from you to glare at his squire.
"A 'good morrow' would have sufficed perfectly fine." He huffs out. You laugh and move to get out of bed, walking over to Egg's cot.
Your hand runs through his short silver hair, a recent change to the previously bald boy. Egg blinks up at you, a yawn escaping him to break the comfortable silence.
Dunk gets up too, rising to his full height and walking over to where you stood. He places a hand on the small of your back before he grunts at Egg. "We'll be out of here when the sun comes down from its peak. Get dressed boy, or we will be late to break our fast."
He squeezes your waist and disappears into the small attached bathroom to freshen up. Egg jumps off his bed and turns to you, tugging once at the fabric of your night clothes. "Could you wash my hair today, like you did last month?"
"Yeah, sure Egg. Go brush your teeth first." You nod and gently steer him towards the bathroom. When he enters, you start packing up your things into your satchel, smiling to yourself as you hear them bicker in the bathroom, something about whose brush is whose.
