US Air Conditioning of New Port Richey, Florida: Types of Air Purifiers, Part 1
At US Air Conditioning, we offer residents of New Port Richey and the surrounding communities a wide selection of HVAC systems that include built-in purification systems. There are a number of effective air purification technologies on the market today as well as several gimmicks that will do little to improve your health. It is important to understand the differences before you buy a system.
Mechanical Filters
These are the filters you are most likely familiar with. They come in pleated sheets and are installed in the vents of your heating and air conditioning system. Mechanical filters are highly effective at trapping large particles including dust, animal dander, dust mites, and other insect allergens.
When choosing a filter, you should look at the MERV (minimum efficiency reporting value) rating. Standard quality filters provide minimal purification and are rated at MERV 1 to 4. Filters rated MERV 5 to 15 are significantly more efficient, with the higher rated filters performing nearly as well as more technologically complex solutions. MERV ratings up to 20 may be employed in commercial settings, operating theaters, and research facilities.

HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) Filters
HEPA filters are among the most effective available. They capture 99.97% of all particles, even those as small as 0.3 microns (a human hair is 150 microns). They help reduce allergy symptoms, asthma, recurring colds, and cough. HEPA filters are so effective that they are used in hospital operating rooms. Guardian Air, an RGF PHI technology, does not need the pollutants to travel to the air handler for ultraviolet treatment and filtration. It is proactive and sends ionized aggressive advanced oxidizers into the room to destroy the pollutants at the source, in the air, and on surfaces before they can reach your family, clients, and employees. The Guardian Air by RGF Environmental Group is designed to eliminate sick building syndrome risks by reducing odors, air pollutants, VOCs (chemical odors), smoke, mold, bacteria, and viruses. The HVAC-PHI cells are easily mounted into air conditioning and heating system air ducts, where most sick building problems start. When the HVAC system is in operation, the HVAC-PHI cell creates friendly oxidizers. By friendly oxidizers, we mean oxidizers that revert back to oxygen and hydrogen after oxidation of the pollutant. PHI technology effectively oxidizes microbes and gasses without the harmful effects that ozone has on humans, making it safe to run in occupied spaces. RGF Environmental Group, known worldwide for their environmental products, released lab test results of the double blind, simulated sneeze test that indicated an average 78% reduction of sneeze microbials at three feet.
