‘The Prince of Obomoshoe,’ (2015), St John’s Wood, London, U.K, By Sami Fortune.
Descended from both the Oba of Lagos and the current ruler of the Nigerian city of Obomoshoe this prince has a fascinating family history. Obomoshoe an ancient 18th century city was founded by a warrior king who established his rule at this time in Western Nigeria. In his battles he always took with him his lucky mascot a tortoise called al-Agbar or the ‘Great One,’ which believe it or not is still alive today! Revered for its connections to the founder of the city it is still taken out on its daily walk often bringing local traffic to a standstill. And after all of that AlAgbar is still 230 or so years old!
