Newest batch of alkhermes being infused for Mercuralia (and for a guy I'm sweet on)
The recipe for this batch is as follows - Hermetic Alchermes Liqueur
INGREDIENTS
Pear Brandy (750 ml)
Cinnamon sticks, 3,
Orange peel from 1 orange, scorched, and/or dash of Regan’s orange bitters
Fennel, 1 heaped tablespoon (cracked/bruised)
Cardamom pods, 1 heaped tablespoon (cracked/bruised)
Coriander seeds 1 heaped tablespoon (cracked/bruised)
Cloves, 1 heaped tablespoon (cracked/bruised),
Nutmeg, shavings or powder, equivalent to 1 tablespoon
Vanilla bean 1/2 of one (split)
Abramelin Oil (Crowley recipe), a few drops
For the syrup
Sugar, 2 cups
Water, 4 cups
Rose water, 1 tablespoon
Cochineal, about a teaspoon for coloring
Instructions:
Dry roast in skillet the cinnamon sticks, cloves, fennel, coriander, and nutmeg separately.
Then put all the ingredients (other than the ingredients for the syrup) in a large mason jar with a tight sealing lid. Give it a good shake initially and then let it sit for 1-2 weeks. Next make a syrup by bringing the water to a boil and dissolving the sugar in it. Remove from heat, add cochineal and rose water. Finally, remove the cinnamon sticks from and strain the liqueur with a fine mesh strainer into a new container mixing in the rose syrup. Store in a cool dry spot. Keeps indefinitely.
