Day 6 - The Alderking
("The Darkest Part of the Forest" by @hollyblack)
Hello! Since your taking questions, I was wondering if you could tell us more about the Alderking? Your idea is really intriguing btw and I cant wait to hear more about it!!
Hello! Sure I'd love to tell you more!
In my story the Alderking is one of the six very first faerie kings. They were created to rule over the faerie kingdoms. That happened through the magic of the six mighty trees: Alder, Aspen, Willow, Birch, Ash and Oak.
You could say these trees are like gods, they are really powerful magical beings. Each tree gave life to one of the kings. The Alderking is named after the tree that gave him his life.
In the beginning the six kings and their kingdoms were equals. But the Alderking became hungry for power and wanted to be the only ruler of faerie land. The Alderking being the bad guy isn't inspired by my favorite poem, no not at all (yes it is)
He formed an evil plan to defeat the other kings. He had to become stronger than them (they were all born with equal strength and magical abilities). And so with the help of some evil spirits he bound his life and the life of the magical Alder tree together, gaining even more of its power and becoming stronger.
With his new power he attacked the other kingdoms. But, after some serious fighting, the other kings were able to stop him with their powers combined. Five people were stronger than one after all, even with the power of the Alder.
The Alderking was defeated, but they couldn't kill him because that would've killed the magical alder too (since they are bond together). So, instead they cursed him and turned him so his body turned into a wooden statue.
You have to imagine that like a magical prison, his spirit was still alive inside the statue but it was stuck there. Nothing could ever break the wood and release him, except for his own magical sword, but it was hidden were no one could ever find it.
Most of eternity, his mind was asleep inside the statue. But now he's waking, and he's calling for someone to free him...
And that's basically the whole story of my version of the famous Alderking :) Thank you for the ask!
