talk about your favourite or several favourite hob matches :> pls
oh dear. u mean i can't say all of them?
in all seriousness:
double or nothing 2022 versus death triangle is always one i come back to. it's such a fun mix of styles and approaches to wrestling and i think it's a really great showcase of everyone's skills both as athletes and as performers. i think i'll probably always enjoy when house of black wrestles against the more light, flowy lucha style. smaller more compact guys like rey and pac throwing brody around is so fun as well - i love the intent and deliberate collaboration between wrestlers that goes into making those moves not only work but look convincing. penta's willingness to go all fucking in on the penta oscuro character is something i'll miss, too.
revolution 2023 versus the elite is also great - there's so much storytelling involved in that match in terms of the trios title changing hands and what that meant for both factions as well as some really fun collaborative spots on both sides, and it's kind of crazy that i live in a time where my favourite guys won over some of the best tag wrestlers in the world for a championship belt. funny bonus for matt being a goofy goober and trying to bait brody only to chicken out. i kind of wish they'd had the trios belts longer, or been able to defend them more often, but who knows - maybe they'll win them again some time.
for julia, i'd have to say full gear 2023. she's always incredible but to not only hold her own but win for a title against stat when she's so young is really impressive, and i loved the way that the storyline with "corrupting" skye added to the tension of how that match played out. when she's really given the room to show it, julia has developed a real savvy and an awareness for how to make her opponents look good as well as to play to her own strengths, and she's just always a delight to watch.
cope vs malakai was so fun for me because i think a lot of people haven't seen malakai perform in that kind of extreme rules environment, so it was fun to see him in a very different element than we usually do. i'll probably be sad forever about the way that match ended, but there were lots of fun spots prior to it and they both seemed like they were having a great time with both the storyline and the match itself. i hope they get to run it back some time or at least be involved in each other's stories - there was something really special about their individual creativities coming together and i'd love to see it again.
honourable mention for mxm collection because it was both a really great chance for mxm to showcase what they can do against some high-calibre wrestlers - they're already great on their own, and house of black are consistently quite good at really trying to highlight and support the strengths of their opponents; it's something i've always liked about them - as well as just being extremely fun and silly in a way that was very welcome when i start taking wrestling too seriously.
psst. don't tell anyone. but you are my favourite person
oh no, i dropped this on the dash
