Hey gang what if I got obsessed with a bunch of side characters and their non-existent summer camp spin-off
(Character design notes below)
Neon
Neon was by far the easiest to design. She’s described as being short, having numerous piercings, wearing a leather jacket, and wearing almost entirely black. The only “Rose originals” for her are her general spikiness and some playing around with her hair style. To me her most interesting design detail is that she’s noted to have a hint of blue in her otherwise brown eyes, so I tried to incorporate that where possible.
Blaze
I definitely took a lot of liberty with Blaze. For starters, most of his shirts are either sleeveless or have had the sleeves cut off in some way. This is naturally because he kept setting them on fire. Similarly, a lot of his clothing is very patch-heavy, mostly because I really hope he learned how to repair and/or combine his clothes instead of throwing them out at some point. And finally, I have a note about his jewelry. While he has chains and earrings on, he isn’t actually wearing metal! Even though his flames can’t actually burn him, I’d imagine heat conductive jewelry wouldn’t turn out well for him. Instead, he wears silicone jewelry. (I actually got this idea from electricians, who don’t wear metal jewelry to avoid electrocution. Shout out to electricians. Maybe that would mean that the material was Neon’s idea?)
Indah
The cover artist did a lovely job with Indah, so I followed their lead. I’m mostly happy with her design, but her tattoos are definitely off. Early on Damien describes her as having a tattoo in “a language he doesn’t recognize” on one arm, but I’m not sure what language it ended up being, nor what it said. I’m also pretty sure there’s a scene where she explicitly states what flower she has on her arm/back, but it’s a bit hard to navigate to certain scenes with the audiobook, so for now it’s just roses. If anyone knows, please share!
Damien
Damien is described as emo, speckle faced, chubby, and notes his hair is getting long in the book. With all that in mind, I decided to soften his look a good bit as a teenager. In my head he only started wearing leather jackets after leaving LA, possibly in a vain attempt to be as cool as Neon.
Thanks for reading all that! As a bonus, take this totally normal WIP from a comic I’m working on :]
