Ralph(Beta secretary) with a frown; who likes Y/n as his sister ; as she reminds him of his dead sister : As if it wasn't you who wrote that article..
It was a warm summer night when he first saw you. The Pflichttreue was driving to Portland after being summoned by De Groot. Nearing the outskirts, he saw you walking along the road, carrying a suitcase, and he slowed down, pressing the button to lower the window. He leaned over the console, ducking his head as he called out to you.
"Are you alright?"
You leaned on the window with a sheepish smile, "My car broke down. I was trying to find my way to a B&B in Portland."
"I'm heading that way. I can take you there."
"Would you? That would be amazing."
Alexander nodded and got out of the car, walking around to help you with your suitcase. He glanced around as he carried it to the trunk, wondering where your car was. You thanked him as he placed it in his trunk.
"No problem." He sent you a small smile, "This is the last place a woman should be walking alone." He walked to the passenger door, holding it open, and you missed the way his eyes scanned his surroundings, sensing he had found you just in time.
He had been brought to Portland after there were several killings on the outskirts of the city. He closed the door once you were safely inside, and you watched as he walked around the front of the car, seeing his tailored suit in the headlights and a glimpse of his sharp features. He took a discreet inhale and knew you weren't a Wesen. You were a human, or as Wesen called a Kehrseite.
"Thanks again." You spoke up as he started to drive off. "I'm Y/N."
"Alexander."
"You're from England?"
He glanced at you with a smile, "Is it that noticeable?"
"Yes, but probably as noticeable as my accent is to you. Although you give less Hugh Grant and more Henry Cavill."
"I'll take that as a compliment."
"As you should."
Alexander glanced at you when you turned your head to look out of the window. "What brings you to Portland?"
"Family." You turned to meet his gaze, "I've been travelling for a while and decided to come home. I booked the B&B because I knew I would arrive at an ungodly hour." Alexander nodded, keeping his eyes on the road as he drove. "What about you?" Seeing the faint lift of his eyebrow, you elaborated, "What brings you to Portland?"
"Business." He sent you a trained smile, "It always does."
"I figure you're either an accountant or a secret agent sent to uncover trade secrets."
Alexander knew you weren't a Wesen and therefore knew nothing about the Council. So, to throw you off completely, he said, "The company that I work for has important assets in the US. I was sent to review them."
You nodded, "I was kind of hoping you would be a secret agent."
Alexander turned his head to look at you, feeling his lips curving upwards on their own accord, "If I was a secret agent, I could hardly admit it, could I?"
You mirrored his smile, "That's right. So maybe you're just trying to throw me off by admitting you're an accountant."
"No, I'm afraid my life is not that exciting. Speaking of excitement, where have you traveled to?"
He was subtly changing the subject, and his grip around the steering wheel relaxed when you indulged him. You would settle down for a few months, earn some money, and then move on to the next circle on your map.
A short while later, Alexander pulled up outside a hotel and asked how long you intended to stay in Portland.
You smiled softly, "This is the last stop. My family needs me, and who knows? We might bump into each other again. I may be the woman who makes your tea."
Alexander chuckled as you both got out of the car, resting a hand on the roof as he looked over at you. The streetlamp gave him a better view of your beauty, and the sight almost sent him staggering back.
"Then I shall endeavor to be in your good graces."
"You're already off to a great start." You closed the car door, following him to the trunk. Alexander looked at the suitcase that had lost its wheels and insisted on carrying it inside.
You greeted the receptionist with a smile, and she checked your name on the computer before giving you the key. You turned to Alexander, who looked overdressed in the six-bedroom B&B that resembled a grandmother's house.
"Thank you for, well, everything tonight." You sent him a bashful smile. "When I get a job, the tea is on me."
Alexander knew the odds of running into you again were slim as he rarely walked the streets of Portland unless stalking after a rogue Wesen.
Still, he chuckled at the offer, and said, "I might take you up on that." He glanced at your suitcase, brows furrowing, "Do you need a hand with that?"
"I have it, sir." A twenty-something walked down the stairs and you thanked him when he took your suitcase.
Alexander slowly nodded, finding he was oddly reluctant to part ways so soon. "Well then...goodnight."
"Night, Mr. Not-A-Secret-Agent-But-Totally-Looks-Like-One." You looked over your shoulder as you followed the twenty-something to your room for the night, sending Alexander a smile.
Alexander watched as you disappeared upstairs before shaking his head, looking at his watch as he walked out of the B&B. De Groot would be wondering where he was by now. He gracefully entered his car and drove off, leaving the B&B behind but thoughts of you, and the scent of your perfume lingered for weeks.
As the second week passed, Alexander was growing more certain that your paths would never cross again and found that while it was probably for the best, being someone who fought to keep Wesen hidden from Kehrseites, he still thought of you more than twice a day. What had you been up to since you last saw each other? How was your family? Did you find a job in a coffee shop?
On the third week, he finally got the answers to the questions nagging in his brain. In Rosalee's Spice Shop of all places. The Fuchsbau kept the store open later than usual and while Alexander was speaking to Nick and Monroe in the back room, he heard the bell above the door ring and Rosalee left to speak to the person who entered. His brow furrowed slightly when he swore he heard your voice and when he walked out after completing his business with the Grimm for the day, he found that you were gone but the scent of your perfume was all the proof he needed that you had been there.
After leaving the Spice Shop, Alexander walked to his car and looked around as he unlocked it. Being an agent for the Council he learned to always be aware of his surroundings. There were many Wesen who disagreed with the Council and it only took one slip up to be caught off guard. He tilted his head when he heard muttered curses and locked his car, following the sound of hands hitting a steering wheel, to find you sitting in the driver seat of your car, head against the headrest with your eyes closed.
His lips quirked upward as he knocked on the window and you gasped, turning your head, sighing in relief when you saw him. Alexander didn't dare acknowledge the way his heart pounded when you smiled at him. You got out of the car and closed the door.
"Car troubles?"
"It's cursed."
Alexander shook his head with a smile, "Come on, I'll drive you home."
"My hero." You sighed dramatically. "Are you sure you don't have anywhere to be? I don't want to hold you up."
"Nothing important." It was a lie, of course. De Groot expected him to report to the Council as soon as he left the Spice Shop, but Alexander hadn't called in yet, and until he did, his presence wouldn't be missed.
You took out a box of herbal teas Rosalee had given you to try and help you sleep better, locking your car. Alexander took the box and you shook your head as you fell into step beside him. "You know, we're one more save away from making this a habit."
"I prefer to call it a happy coincidence."
"I can carry things, you know. And I'm not always so helpless."
"I'm becoming rather fond of helping you." He admitted and you looked up at him, meeting his gaze with a smile that he returned. "How is your family?"
And so, as he drove you home, the Pflichttreue asked all the questions that had been bugging him for weeks. You were working at a restaurant and when you weren't working, you helped your family, and when you weren't helping family you were trying to catch up on sleep but could never get enough hours to feel properly rested.
"I knew the house was old, but I had the plumbing checked before I bought it."
Alexander apologized when his phone rang and he took it out of his pocket, seeing De Groot's number. It seemed he had waited long enough. He debated on answering it, and when it stopped ringing, he knew he would have some explaining to do later, but for now, he placed it under the radio.
"Work?" You asked, seeing the slight tightening of his jaw. Alexander nodded. "I can walk from here if you have somewhere to be."
Alexander shook his head.
"Okay..." You weren't complaining. The more time you could have together, you would gladly accept and you would enjoy every second. The mysterious Alexander hadn't left your thoughts since the night he had driven you to the B&B. "How is work as an accountant going?"
Alexander glanced at you, hearing the emphasis you used, his grip on the wheel loosening as his lips lifted slightly. "It's fine. Boring."
You playfully rolled your eyes. "I have another theory."
"You are awfully interested in what I do for a living."
"I'm thinking..." Alexander chuckled when you tapped your cheek thoughtfully. "less secret agent, more Batman."
"Batman?"
"You know, the comic book vigilante?"
Alexander shook his head. "I assure you my work is extremely boring."
You doubted it, only growing more curious about Alexander the more he claimed the life he led was dull. "I can't imagine anything about you being boring."
He turned his head to look at you, finding you were looking out the window at the lights passing by. A short while later he parked outside your house and eyed the neighborhood warily. "This is where you live?"
"Yeah," You noticed his tone of disbelief and turned to him as you got out of the car. "Why? What's wrong with it?"
"Nothing." He replied quickly and you shook your head as you closed the door.
Alexander got out of the car and glanced around, sensing there was more lurking in this neighborhood than Kehrseite criminals. A discreet inhale was all the proof he needed to know you lived among several Wesen. Including a family of Luisant-Pêcheur, an otter-like Wesen, and a Coyoti, a coyote-like Wesen. But most troubling was the scent of a Lausenschlange, a snake-like Wesen. He had dealt with more than a handful of Lausenschlange's over the years and all of them were hostile.
You playfully sighed when he took the box of herbal tea from your arms and headed to the porch, unlocking the door.
"Why do you have so much tea?" He asked, following you to the kitchen and placing the box on the countertop.
"The shopkeeper Rosalee is so sweet. She came to the restaurant and said she had some tea that she believed could help me get a good night's sleep." You explained, leaning on the countertop. "Want one for the road?"
Alexander considered it, but he knew he was already too close as it was. He believed humans, Kehrseites, couldn't handle the truth about the Wesen world, but when he looked at you, the smile on your lips warmer than the desert, he wanted to believe it was possible. That maybe, just maybe, humans and Wesen could co-exist despite his job being to cover up any Wesen-related crimes and kill rogue Wesen who threatened their peaceful existence.
"How are you going to make it?"
Your smile became teasing, "Microwave." Alexander took a step back and you giggled, halting his steps, the sound catching him by surprise. You were a beautiful, bewitching woman and your laugh was like a melody to his ears. "Kettle." You shrugged, "I spent two months in England. I tried to microwave when I came back to the States, but I felt like I was committing a felony."
Alexander chuckled, nodding. "I can stay for tea."
You sent him a smile before turning to fill the kettle with water. "And work?"
"Nothing that can't wait a few more minutes."
You moved to the living room with your teacups and Alexander looked at the cup, glancing at you with a raised eyebrow. "I feel fancy drinking tea."
He shook his head with a smile.
That evening, calls went to voicemail, as the Pflichttreue lingered longer, and you learned more about his family in England although Alexander kept out one or two Wesen-like details. You tucked your legs beneath you as you spoke about your family and Alexander knew it was an easy decision to move back to the States. When your family needed you, you would drop everything to help, just as they would do for you.
He rested his arm on the back of the sofa, reaching out to brush your hair away from your shoulder, so it cascaded down your back, no longer blocking his view of your features that he considered perfect. Due to his work with the Wesen Council, Alexander believed he should have been more startled by the thoughts running through his mind, but he couldn't deny that falling in love with you would be an easy thing to do.
Did being a Kehrseite have to complicate things?
For days he pondered this at great length. His standing with the Council could be questioned, but not if he kept it quiet. Dating a Kehrseite would only become a problem if you found out about the Wesen world and his Pflichttreue heritage.
You had arrived home from work one night when a plumber knocked on your door. You were confused when he argued that he had gotten a call about your house and you realized it had to be Alexander who made the call. You shook your head, stepping aside to let the plumber inside.
You were pleasantly surprised when Alexander entered the restaurant as you looked in the book for a couple's reservation and after finding a waiter to take them to their table, you sent him a smile when he approached the podium.
"Hi! I thought you were flying back this morning."
"I decided to extend my stay for a few days." He replied with a small smile. "I want to take you out for dinner if you would do me the honor?"
You nodded, "I'd love to."
"Tomorrow night? I'll pick you up at eight?"
You agreed and Alexander smiled before turning around to leave. "It's my treat."
He turned, eyebrows furrowing, "What?"
"For the plumber you sent to my house and paid for."
Before he could catch it, a smirk formed on his lips then his features feigned innocence. "I have no idea what you're talking about."
You shook your head when he walked out before greeting another couple, checking their reservation before leading them to their table. You bit the inside of your cheek as you thought about your date tomorrow night and when you returned to the podium, you felt your blushing cheeks, fanning yourself with the reservation book.
The next night, Alexander arrived precisely at eight o'clock and when you answered the door in a dress and heels, he was at a loss for words. You glanced at your dress then at the Pflichttreue who cleared his throat, blinking as he snapped out of his daze.
"I can change?"
"What? No! No! You look...incredible.",
You smiled softly, feeling a blush form on your cheeks at his breathy response and knew the dress you had chosen had its desired effect. "Well, you look...like you always do."
Alexander chuckled, "Is that a good thing?"
"A very good thing."
He smiled as you stepped outside, locking the door, and offered you his arm. You looped your left arm with his right arm as you walked down the driveway to his car. Alexander opened the door, turning to you as he held it open, unable to tear his eyes away. As he closed the door once you were inside, you buckled your seatbelt with a smile, pleased that he appeared as affected by you as you were by him for once.
While dinner began with small smiles, by the end of the night you graduated to holding hands across the table as you talked and Alexander adored how easy it was to be with you, how easy it was to talk to you, and loved seeing your features light up as you laughed. You stayed an hour after dinner, sharing a glass of wine as you dived deeper into each other's pasts. As you left the restaurant, he took off his jacket, standing behind you as he placed it over your shoulders. You held your breath as he freed your hair from beneath the collar, smiling as you turned to him, tilting your head up to meet his gaze.
Your eyelashes fluttered when he placed a hand on your cheek and you closed your eyes when his lips brushed yours. Your hands rose to the curve of his neck as he kissed you, holding back a pleasant groan as he placed a hand on your back, bringing you closer. You pulled away moments later, glancing up from his tie to meet his gaze, biting your lower lip.
You knew you only had two more days left before he left the States, and wished you could spend every second with him, not knowing when he would return.
You looped your arm with his and rested your right hand on his arm while you approached your house.
"Thank you for tonight. I had a wonderful time."
"I did too. I am staying in Portland for two more days before I have to return to England but I would like to see you before I leave." Alexander placed a hand over your hand with a smile.
"I'm having dinner with my parents tomorrow night. But we can have lunch together?"
Alexander nodded, placing a hand on your cheek as you turned to him while standing on the top step, almost matching his height with your heels and the added height of the step. You closed your eyes when he kissed you with a passion you had never experienced before, wrapping your arms around his neck as he moved his hands to your waist, bringing you closer as he deepened the kiss. You pulled away a few moments later, biting your lip as you caught your breath.
"Do you want to come inside?"
Alexander knew he should've walked away before things became more complicated, but if being around you had taught him anything it was he was a weak man when it came to you. He nodded slowly, and for every step you took backward, he took forward, and you unlocked the door turning as you stepped into the house, wrapping your arms around his neck when he brought you into his embrace, reigniting your kiss as he kicked the door closed.
Since that night Alexander spent more time in Portland, keeping his visits quiet, hiding himself from the Wesen Council to avoid anyone finding out that he was dating a Kehrseite. When he did visit Portland for Council business he always snuck away for a few hours to be with you. You never questioned what he did for a living, but you always asked how his day went after he returned from an errand for the Council. As time passed, the lies he spun to prevent you from finding out the truth twisted his gut as his guilt grew, but he knew keeping the two worlds apart was keeping you safe. Safe from the knowledge that you were sleeping with a killer, an agent, a hitman, for a Council of people who believed that humans and Wesen could not coexist peacefully and his job was to keep the truth hidden from humans whenever a Wesen went rogue.
You looked at him as if he was the most caring man you had ever met, which he was when he was around you. But when he was sent on a job for the Council he had to bury that person down to complete his work. For two years Alexander succeeded in maintaining his ruse, and when you traveled to England to meet his family, they loved him enough not to question his methods and greeted you warmly. Your wedding was a family affair. Alexander was a private person, more so when it came to you. Your wedding was both of your families watching you walk down the aisle and Alexander trying not to cry at your beauty and holding back the urge to confess everything then and there.
His fears about telling you the truth weren't about your reaction. It was the Wesen community who some members believed he and the Council were the enemy. The Council wouldn't understand, for he had sworn to protect the Wesen way of life by covering up its existence, and Alexander did not know what they would do. He knew you would be hurt that he had kept such a large part of himself hidden from you, but the Pflichttreue believed it was the only way to protect you - both from the disappointment and the attacks that would follow when Wesen found out you were married to one of the top agents for the Council. But he knew he couldn't hide it from you forever.
Especially when you announced that you were pregnant.
"P-Pregnant?"
You nodded with tears in your eyes. "I went to the doctor this morning to confirm it." You knew his next question before he could ask it. "Six weeks." You giggled nervously when he didn't speak. "I know it's a surprise but a happy one, right?"
Alexander tore himself from his daze, quietening the whispers rattling his brain that warned him that it was time to tell you the truth and he'd sealed your fate. "A brilliant surprise." He stepped forward, hugging you tightly and you smiled against his shoulder as he closed his eyes, allowing himself to enjoy the moment. Alexander stepped back a few moments later and you frowned when you saw the way his jaw ticked when he was worried about something, and the tears in his eyes.
"What's wrong?"
He shook his head, "I'm thrilled. I am truly. It's -" He stepped back and held out a hand when you stepped forward to comfort him. "I'm sorry."
"Alex, you're scaring me." You felt tears pricking your eyes.
"I don't want to." He closed his eyes, exhaling sharply. "It's the last thing I want."
"Then talk to me."
He shook his head, meeting your gaze. "It's easier to show you."
"Show me?" Your eyes widened when he woged for the first time and you stared at the Pflichttreue in disbelief. "Wha- How? What?" You stepped back subconsciously, placing a hand on the countertop when you felt your back hit it.
"I won't hurt you." He shook his head, reverting to his human form. "I can explain everything."
"Y-You -" Your eyebrows knit together, "How did you - What?" You breathed heavily and the Pflichttreue lowered his head when you moved away, the breakfast bar separating you both.
That night Alexander told you everything. The truth about who he was, who his family were, and his work for the Wesen Council. You moved to the living room, sitting on the armchair in disbelief, wiping away tears that fell down your cheeks.
"You lied to me."
"I was trying to protect you."
"From what?" You met his gaze for the first time for over an hour and the Pflichttreue swallowed the gravel in his throat when he saw your tears.
"From me. From my world." He admitted. "I never intended to hurt you, I was trying to protect you. That's all I wanted. I tried to stay away, but I couldn't. Even when I barely knew you, I loved you. And I don't want to lose you."
"Will they..." You placed a hand on your stomach and Alexander nodded. "Oh God." You covered your mouth, moving away from the armchair and the Pflichttreue whose gaze followed you as you stood by the window. You closed your eyes, taking a deep breath before meeting his gaze. "Two years. Two years! And you never said a word!"
He hung his head, and you saw it then. The vulnerability, his fear, and the helplessness. He couldn't change what he was, but he tried, to be with you. "I'm sorry. I can't...I know I can't turn back the clock, and undo it. I know I don't deserve it...but I-I," He looked at the ground as a tear fell down his cheek. "I need it. I need you."
You shook your head, "Does it hurt?" Alexander met your gaze. "That shifting thing. Will it hurt them?"
Alexander shook his head. "No." He stepped forward as you looked at the ground, "No, they will feel no pain. I promise."
Tears fell on your cheeks as a sob left your lips, this time from relief and Alexander cautiously reached out, bringing you into his embrace, sighing in relief when you rested your head on his chest. You clutched his jacket tightly, as you listened to his whispered apologies. You lifted your head after a few minutes and he wiped your tears away with his thumbs.
"No more secrets."
He nodded, closing his eyes as he rested his forehead against yours. "I promise."
You pulled away a few moments later. "Show me again."
Alexander looked at you hesitantly before he woged and your eyes widened, but you remained in his embrace. Curiosity replaced your previous fears and you tentatively reached up to place a hand on his cheek.
"I knew you were different when we met, but I didn't know how much."
"I'm still the man you married."
You lowered your hand, shaking your head, "You hid yourself from me, Alex. How am I to know what was you, and the person you pretended to be."
"The person I was with you, is the person I wish I was."
"You are a-a -"
"Pflichttreue." He supplied.
"A Pflichttreue. But you changed every story about your past and your family as if you were ashamed of it. I don't want that. I would never want that."
"Tell me what I need to do, and I'll do it."
You shook your head and his expression faltered, believing you were going to tell him that you were staying with your parents, or telling him to leave the house you spent half your time in, the other half his estate in England.
"I need you to help me." You met his gaze with teary eyes. "I want to tell them stories about you. I want to be there for them, and I can't do that if I don't know anything about Wesen. I don't want to be heavily involved in the community. I just...I want to be a good mother."
"You will be." Alexander held your teary gaze, "You will be a fantastic mother."
"But I don't even know how to raise a baby. How can I raise a Wesen when there's so much I don't understand?"
He nuzzled his nose against yours and you closed your eyes, placing a hand on his neck. "I'll help you."
You pulled back slightly to meet his gaze, and a small smile formed on your lips. "I'm still mad at you, but you look so cute."
Alexander rolled his eyes when you hugged his waist. He rested his chin on your head with a smile, wrapping his arms around you and when you pulled back briefly to kiss his cheek, he knew that you would get through this and the weight on his chest got a little lighter.
There weren't many things that could rattle Alexander. He was the only person who could walk into an alley full of thugs and walk confidently out the other side. You never understood why, until that night when he told you that the Wesen community wasn't always a friendly place, filled with dangerous Wesen who hunted humans, and that he was sent by his superior to eliminate the threat to the secrecy of Wesen life. Alexander revealed the Wesens you had come in contact with and you were surprised when he told you about Rosalee and Monroe and their affiliation with a Grimm whose day job was a detective at the Portland Police Department.
The more you learned about the different types of Wesen the more convinced you were that he was right to keep your relationship hidden. And so, while you continued to buy tea from Rosalee, not hinting that you knew she was a Fuchsbau, or that Monroe was a Blutbad, your life remained largely the same, yet it was forever changed.
There weren't many things that could rattle Alexander. But when he came home after hunting a Wesen who was stealing people's memories and found evidence that you had been taken from the house, confirmed by the letter left by your kidnappers, the Pflichttreue immediately panicked. You were due to go into labor any day now, and he knew how ruthless Wesen could be.
Nick was stunned when Monroe called him and said that Alexander was in his house. When the Grimm entered Alexander was standing in the living room, Rosalee glancing between the Blutbad and the Pflichttreue who stared at each other.
Monroe opened the door with a sigh when the Grimm knocked. "Glad you're here."
"Are you okay?"
"Yeah," Monroe closed the door as Nick entered, standing across from Alexander.
"Thank you for coming."
"I wish I could say the same." Nick slid his hands into the front pockets of his jeans, "How long have you been here?"
"Less than an hour. I would not have waited any longer." Alexander replied, putting his hands in the pockets of his jacket, and walking around before turning to the wary Grimm. "I need your help."
"Really? I didn't know you asked Grimms for help."
"It depends on the circumstances. And the Grimm."
"What is it that the Council thinks I can do for them?"
"The Council doesn't know about this." Alexander stunned the room into silence for a moment before adding, "And what I am about to tell you cannot leave this room. No one can know."
Monroe glanced at Rosalee who was equally perplexed.
Alexander began to shock the room further when he revealed he was married to a Kehrseite. Rosalee audibly gasped when he told them it was you. The Pflichttreue recalled the events that took place almost two hours earlier and the numerous pauses he took to collect himself did not go unnoticed.
"Do you know who took her?" Rosalee spoke up.
Alexander nodded, taking out the letter that had been left for him to find. "It's marked with her blood."
The Fuchsbau read the letter solemnly, and Monroe glanced at Alexander as he crossed the room to read over her shoulder. "She's pregnant?"
"Due any day now." Alexander looked at Nick. "I cannot go to the Council. To do so would bring more threats to her and our child. I need your help to get them back. There is no one else."
Rosalee looked at Monroe who frowned as he finished reading the letter and the Blutbad looked at Nick who knew from just one look that they needed to find you.
"Alright. We'll do it." Nick agreed.
The house you had been brought to was falling apart. Some of the windows were broken and the doors were rotting. The last thing you knew was a hand grabbing you from behind, and a cloth over your mouth. The next thing you knew were tied up in a dimly lit basement that made your skin crawl. You struggled against the rope, wincing when the wooden pillar dug into your back. You looked at your stomach, feeling tears pricking your eyes, wondering where your husband was and if he was alright. You knew he must've noticed you were missing by now, and knew he would be on his way to save you.
"Don't worry, little cub." You whispered, swallowing the lump in your throat. "Daddy will be here soon."
All you wanted to do was place a comforting hand on your stomach to feel the kicks but with your hands bound behind your back you couldn't move, and it was enough to break your resolve. You held your breath, silencing your weeps, when you felt the cramps begin. A short while later you heard a loud noise from upstairs, feeling the ceiling shake with each hit the floor took. You flinched when you heard several gunshots, and screamed when a body fell down the staircase, landing near your feet.
A woged Monroe ran down the stairs as the Wesen got to his feet and you closed your eyes as the two men fought, turning your head away when the Blutbad approached you.
Monroe shifted back, holding his hands up, "I'm not going to hurt you."
You turned your head when you heard his voice. "Monroe?"
"Alexander is upstairs." He explained, untying your wrists.
"Monroe -"
He helped you stand, "Rosalee is upstairs too. And Nick. He's a Grimm. Did you know about that?"
You nodded, "Yes, but Monroe -" You clutched his arm when you felt your water break and his eyes widened when he saw it. "I'm in labor."
"Uh -" The Blutbad's panicked eyes glanced around. "Now?"
"I can't control it!"
"Can you walk?"
You shook your head, "What are we going to do?"
His panic increased when he saw your tears, "Hey, hey, just stay right here. Do not move. I'll be right back."
You nodded, trying to focus on your breathing as the Blutbad rushed upstairs. You rested a hand on the wooden pillar, another on your back as you breathe as you were taught in your parenting classes. You heard gunshots and hurried footsteps coming toward you. You sighed in relief when you saw Rosalee and Monroe and the Fuchsbau guided you to the floor. "Monroe, go upstairs."
The Blutbad nodded, "Upstairs. Got it."
You watched him rush to help Nick and Alexander defeat the others before looking at Rosalee. "Is he okay?"
She sent you a smile as she nodded. "He's fine. He's worried about you both. You know, I wondered why you stopped coming into my shop. I would've stopped by if I knew where you lived."
"I didn't want anyone to know about the baby." You exhaled through your teeth and looked at the ceiling when the house fell silent.
The door burst open minutes later and you sighed in relief when you saw Alexander rushing towards you. "Alex!"
He took your hand and you squeezed tightly when you felt another contraction. "I'm here. I'm here." He looked at the rope burns on your wrists with a frown before looking at Rosalee. "How far along is she?"
"She needs to push." The Fuchsbau explained.
Alexander shook his head, "Not here."
"I can't get upstairs." You chimed in.
Alexander stood up, scooping you into his arms, and you wrapped your arms around his neck. "Just hold on."
Rosalee followed after the Pflichttreue when he headed upstairs. You tightened your hold on him with each contraction and Monroe and Nick followed as he carried you outside.
"Put her in my car! I'll use the sirens!" Nick called.
"Open the door! Get the door!" Rosalee shouted, and Monroe quickly opened the car door and Alexander placed you inside the passenger seat.
You groaned as you held your stomach, and he woged, shaking his head to shift back as he pushed down his panic and reclined the seat to try and make you more comfortable. You looked at your husband as he held onto the door and he sent what he hoped was a reassuring smile before closing it.
Alexander got behind the driver's seat and the Grimm was stunned when he stole his car. Monroe caught the keys Alexander tossed out of the window and the trio quickly got into his car and followed behind as he raced towards the hospital, navigating the streets with ease with the sirens blaring. Alexander looked over at you when you held onto the handle above the door.
"I need to push before I get too tired."
Alexander shook his head, "Not yet."
"Alex -"
"We'll make it." He reached over and took your hand, "I promise."
He reduced a forty-minute drive to twenty and you held onto his arm as you entered the hospital. Nurses quickly brought a wheelchair and Alexander followed when they led you to a room.
After a grueling two hours, your son was born and you stared down at the hybrid as he slept, looking at your husband as he stood outside talking to a nurse. She nodded at something he said before walking away and you smiled when he entered the room, approaching the bed.
"They are downstairs. The Fuchsbau refused to leave. I told the nurse to send them up." He explained quietly, looking down at the sleeping newborn in your arms.
You nodded, thanking him with a smile. A few minutes later, the trio walked down the hallway towards your room and saw Alexander sitting next to you, smiling as he gazed down at your son with a smile, glancing at you with adoration.
"Is anyone else finding this weird to watch?" Monroe asked.
"Uh-huh." Nick agreed with a nod. "I can't believe he kept it a secret for two years."
Alexander stood up, taking your newborn to place him in the crib by your bed and turning to tuck the blankets beneath your chin as you lay down. You said something that made him nod and he kissed your forehead. You reached out to touch his bruising cheek and he sent you a smile before he noticed the trio watching. He stepped out of the room, putting his hands in his jacket as approached them.
"How is she?" Rosalee asked.
Alexander sent the Fuchsbau a small smile, seeing the sincere concern in her eyes. "She will be fine. She is understandably exhausted."
"And the baby?"
"A healthy boy."
"Can I..." Rosalee glanced at your room and Alexander nodded. She smiled as she walked toward your room and the Pflichttreue looked at the Grimm and the Blutbad.
"I want to thank you for your help tonight. You saved my family."
"Don't worry, we won't tell anyone," Monroe told him, earning a nod.
"Thank you." Alexander looked over his shoulder at where you were sleeping and Rosalee was smiling down at your newborn. "But that won't be necessary." He met the curious gaze of the Grimm, "I've realized that the more I try to hide them, the more they will become a target. It's time I integrated them into the Wesen world. Remove her fears."
Rosalee walked out of the room, "He's beautiful." She cooed and Monroe smiled as she joined his side.
Alexander sent the Fuchsbau a small smile, "Thank you for your help tonight."
The Pflichttreue left the trio in the hallway, approaching your bed when he noticed you stir in your sleep. You met his gaze when your eyes opened and sent your husband a smile. You sat up, looking at your newborn who stretched in his sleep, woging briefly, and you placed your hands on his torso, leaning into him as you smiled.
"He's perfect, isn't he?"
"Yes, he is." Alexander kissed your head, smiling at your son as he slept peacefully. He looked down at you, pulling away slightly. "I'm sorry. I should've been there."
You took his hand, squeezing it reassuringly. "You found us. We're here because of you. I know it wasn't easy reaching out to them for help."
"Actually," He took a seat beside you, placing his arm around you, "It was an easy decision given what was at stake." He looked over at your son, "While you were gone, I believe I found a way to make sure this won't happen again - ensure both of your safety."
You looked at him in surprise, "You want to tell the Council?"
Alexander nodded, "You will always be a target because of who I am. What I do. They can offer extra protection if I break the news correctly."
You looked away, considering his idea for a moment. "We could become a part of the community or they could shun us."
Alexander shook his head, "There are many hybrids." He nodded to your son, "A Pflichttreue's strongest loyalties are with our kind. He will be protected. As will you."
You turned your head, meeting his gaze, "You've really thought this through?" He nodded and you looked at your son when he yawned in his sleep and smiled softly. "Okay." You looked at your husband, squeezing his hand. "But I have an idea of my own."
Alexander immediately nodded, agreeing without hearing it. Your smile grew, knowing he would love it. "I want to live close to your family. I agree that he needs to be around his kind, but I want him to learn from his family."
Alexander smiled, and brushed his nose against yours, resting his forehead against yours. "I love you."
"I love you too." You wrapped your arms around his neck and titled your chin to kiss him tenderly.
Alexander placed a hand on your cheek as he deepened the kiss and you smiled when you heard your son starting to cry. You patted his chest when he pulled away. "I can see the future clearly now." He jested as he walked over to pick up your son who calmed in his arms at the sound of his father's voice. "I will give you anything you wish, but your mother is mine."
"Alex!" You scolded with a giggle.
"We may share her attention occasionally. But one day you will meet a woman almost as great as she is, and you will understand."
You shook your head at your husband who smiled at your newborn who blinked up at him before yawning. Alexander took a seat beside you as your newborn fell asleep against his chest and you rested your chin on his shoulder. "Are you sure you're ready for this?"
Alexander tilted his head as he met your gaze.
"Sharing."
His response was immediate. "No."
You rested your head on his shoulder, trying to quieten your laughter to avoid disturbing the newborn. Alexander looked at you with a smile.
After your discharge from the hospital a few days later, Alexander prepared to approach the Council while you waited anxiously at home. He knew the cloak and dagger surrounding your relationship would be held against him, but he appealed to the few he knew had family dating humans, using his inside knowledge of those diverting from the Council's aims as he did and the Council agreed to place you and your son under the same protection their families had. Alexander knew it would take a while to earn the trust of De Groot again, but he knew that when you moved to England, there was no safer place than surrounded by his family - a family that adored you from the moment you met.

“I hate this already,” Alexander grumbled as the car began to pull up for you to make your entrance onto the red carpet.
“You’ll be fine, just stay behind me,” you said as you quickly checked your make-up one last time before the cameras would start snapping pictures of you.
“Why, so you can protect me from the cameras?” Alexander said as he adjusted his tie.
“No, so you can see how great my arse looks in this dress,” you grinned.
Alexander looked you up and down and smirked.
“You really do look bloody gorgeous in that dress.”
“Hmm, behave tonight and maybe you’ll get to see how it looks on my bedroom floor.”
Alexander’s eyes flashed hungrily, but your flirting was interrupted when your driver opened the car door and the camera flashes immediately started blinding you. Alexander stepped out of the car, then offered you his hand.
You put on your best polite, gracious smile and took his hand, following him out onto the red carpet and the incessant flashes from the cameras of the gossip hounds.
Tonight was a big night. It was both the wrap party for the latest season of Galaxy Quest and the cast and crew’s Christmas party. It was also, only a select few knew, the night the news would drop that Alexander was leaving Galaxy Quest.
Most of the cast and crew already knew, as his final scenes had already been written, filmed and put into post-production. You’d filmed his last scene months ago, and had been holding onto the secret with great difficulty.
What had been a harder secret to guard was your relationship. It was still fairly new, and although you both loved attention when you were performing, neither of you liked being scrutinised about your private lives. But when Alexander had started visiting you backstage at Sweeney Todd, word had spread pretty quickly that you were dating, and soon enough the whole world knew.
Tonight, however, was the first time you were attending such a high profile event as a couple. It was daunting, but with Alexander’s arm around your waist as you made your way down the red carpet, you felt comforted to know he was there with you.
“Go see the fans, Alex,” you hissed as you noticed him try to head straight past them.
“I thought you were supposed to be on my side?” he grumbled. “Anyway, I don’t have a pen to —”
You just smiled at him and produced two pens from your clutch. He sighed and took one from you.
“What would I ever do without you?”
“Crash and burn,” you said teasingly. “You go left, I’ll go right. Meet you at the guy from MTV?”
“Yes, ma’am.” Alexander gave you a swift kiss on the cheek, earning an aww from the watching fans, and you divided yourselves between the line of fans.
Your cheeks were hurting from smiling for pictures, and you hadn’t even reached the press yet. Fans clamoured to get photos with you, and you did your best to dodge the questions of Bethany’s return, since your cameo was to be a surprise, and your relationship with Alexander.
You massaged your cheeks as you joined Alexander, who’d sped through the autographs and pictures with all the practised ease of a veteran screen actor, and he took your hand as you dove into the trenches of the press.
This being your first red carpet event, you let Alexander take the lead in picking which journalists to speak to, and so you followed him to speak to a journalist who said he was from some theatre magazine you’d never heard.
“Sir Alexander! Good to see you again. Excited to be back on the Galaxy Quest red carpet?”
“Johnathan, hello. I must say I’m mostly shocked it’s come around again. It feels like last year’s event was only last week.”
“Ah, but so much has happened since then, hasn’t it? I take it the rumours are true, then?” Johnathan asked, indicating your joined hands.
“Oh, no, we’re just exchanging long protein strings,” you said. “It’s a Mak’tar thing.”
Alexander chuckled. “Well, that’s a beneficial side effect. But yes, we are dating. We tried to keep it between ourselves, but it seems hiding anything from Galaxy Quest fans is impossible.”
“Well, the one secret that does seem to be hidden is when Bethany’s coming back! Anything you can share, [Y/n]?”
“If they ask, I’m there,” you replied. “So long as I get to film with Alex again, I’ll happily put the chicken head back on.”
Johnathan laughed, and Alexander took a few more questions about the upcoming season before you said your goodbyes and moved on.
A few more journalists later, you posed for some press photos. No doubt the journalists were loving having the first official pictures of the two of you as a couple, after the only images they had for months were candid pap shots that could have been dates or could have just been two friends.
After some encouragement from the photographers, you turned to Alexander and leaned up to kiss him. For a few moments, the world seemed to calm down a little bit, and you very briefly forgot anyone other than him existed.
That was, until Guy appeared from his interviews - which had taken much longer than yours - and clapped you on the back to get your attention.
You broke the kiss and pretended for the cameras’ sake to be happy to see him, but you were truthfully a little irritated that he’d interrupted your kiss.
Eventually, you managed to escape the cameras, and made your way inside to the party, where the real fun could begin.
There was one very important rule, Alexander had told you, at the cast and crew parties: no cameras. The studio hired a couple of photographers to take some official photos to be reviewed and released to the press, but other than that, what happened at the party stayed at the party.
It was a completely reasonable rule, considering that there was an open bar. Actors were all narcissistic assholes to some extent; some just hid it better than others. Add as much alcohol as they could drink into their systems, and it was a mess. Those who seemed nice, like Gwen, showed another side - and those who were known assholes, like Jason, got worse.
As the night went on, you found your people. Alexander, of course, was an asshole. But he was your asshole, so you didn’t mind. Leilani had a much higher tolerance for alcohol than a human, so she was barely tipsy. Fred, wanting to keep pace with her, didn’t drink much. And Guy, who was almost as new to the whole thing as you were, didn’t want to get too drunk in case he did something embarassing.
You became a tight knit gang of five that night, and the photographers seemed happy with the amount of photos they got of you all hanging out. They particularly seemed happy when one of them managed to get a candid photo of you and Alexander kissing when you thought nobody was looking.
“Man, I feel like such a fifth wheel,” Guy complained when Fred and Leilani got up to dance, and he turned to speak to you only to find you were now sitting in Alexander’s lap. “Why can’t I find something like that?”
“Maybe if you weren’t such an insufferable prat?” Alexander suggested, and you slapped his chest playfully. “Ow! Okay, fine. That’s bad advice. I somehow managed to catch this one while very much being an insufferable prat.”
“Joke’s on you, I’m into that,” you snickered. “Listen, Guy, Alex and Fred are both ancient - hey!”
This time Alexander had nudged you playfully.
“Anyway, what I mean is, you got plenty of time. She’s out there, dude. Maybe - ohmygodIlovethissong!”
You jumped off of Alexander’s lap as Livin’ La Vida Loca started playing from the DJ’s speakers.
“C’mon, Alex!”
You took his hand and tried to pull him to his feet. He sighed, then picked up his drink and necked the remainder.
“You’re lucky there’s no photos allowed.”
You grinned as he let you pull him onto the dancefloor, and despite his initial reservations, once he realised dancing meant he could hold you close and put his hands all over you (plus the influence of the alcohol in his system), he turned out to be actually be a rather good dancer. Then again, you were drunk and in love with him, so your opinion might have been slightly biased.
It was approximately 3am by the time you and Alexander stumbled out of the party, with you giggling at the way he was hiccuping. The party was still very much in full swing, but you were both far more interested in getting one another’s clothes off, and despite the stringent privacy rules at the party, this was something neither of you wanted to share.
A taxi took you back to your flat, as it was closer than Alexander’s place, and he teased you as you drunkenly fumbled with the lock.
“I’m so glad we don’t have to go to those parties ever again,” Alexander sighed with relief as he pulled his shoes off in the hallway. “I’m sick and tired of watching Jason put his relationship with Gwen on the line every year by drunkenly flirting with every woman in the room.”
“Was he doing that? I didn’t notice, I had my eyes on you all night,” you said as you poured two glasses of water from your filter.
“You can bet I had my eyes on you,” Alexander replied, trying his best to sound seductive through his drunken slurring. He wrapped his arms around you from behind and nuzzled your neck. “God, that dress looks fucking amazing on you. Let’s get it off.”
He pawed at your breasts, as if he could rip the fabric off there and then, and you laughed.
“Easy, tiger. Let’s be sensible adults for once.”
You managed to wriggle out of his grasp just enough to turn and hand him a glass of water.
After hydrating, you were both feeling a little more sober, and you managed to walk in a straight line as Alexander chased you into the bedroom and eagerly pulled the zip down on the back of your dress.
He kissed you as it fell to the floor, and you both laughed as you stumbled back onto the bed. He climbed on top of you, still kissing you hungrily.
“Hey, you better get these off too, mister,” you said, pushing his suit jacket from his shoulders.
“Mhm, alright, alright.” Alexander grumbled at having to pull his lips away from yours as he fumbled with his shirt buttons. You helped him with them, followed quickly by his belt, and watched as he discarded his trousers along with the rest of your floor-bound clothes.
Your dress and his suit together were worth a good few hundred dollars, so maybe you should have put them away a bit more carefully, but neither of you cared. You only had one thing on your mind.
“I’ve been waiting for this all night,” Alexander purred as he climbed back on top of you and you instinctively wrapped your legs around his waist. His cock pressed against your entrance, and he grinned. “Soaked as always, I see.”
“Alex, please…”
You didn’t need to ask him twice. He thrust his hips forwards, slipping inside of you easily, and your walls stretched to welcome him as he pushed his cock deep inside you.
“Christ, you’re so fucking beautiful,” Alexander panted as he held you close, fingers digging into your flesh as he fucked you. “And so fucking warm and wet for me…”
“All for you, Alex,” you moaned in reply, grabbing uselessly onto his shoulders to try and steady yourself as he fucked you. “Al - always for you…”
“Mmm, yes… all mine… fuck, [Y/n]…”
He picked up the pace, and you knew from the way he was grunting desperately in your ear that he wouldn’t be lasting very long tonight.
“Harder, Alex…”
Alexander complied, his hips slamming into you with everything he had. The mattress squeaked its protests with every thrust, but neither of you cared. All you cared about was him, his flesh against yours, the way he panted without abandon with each thrust, the strain on his face as he tried not to cum too quickly. He was the most beautiful man you’d ever seen.
You felt the familiar burning inside your core, and Alexander must have felt your walls clenching around him, because he began mumbling in your ear, “That’s it, [Y/n], cum for me… so good for me, so fucking good… mhm, fuck, I’m not gonna last long…”
He slipped a hand between your bodies, and the moment his thumb flicked against your clit you were done for, a shout of his name erupting from your lips as you came, your whole body shuddering as ecstasy washed over your body. Alexander came shortly after, his hips stilling as he filled you, his groan of pleasure low and guttural, and the most beautiful sound in the world.
He took a few moments to catch his breath, then pulled out of you and wrapped you tightly in his arms as he laid down on the bed next to you. You snuggled up to him happily, both of you basking in the bliss of the aftermath. Your bedroom stunk of sex and sweat, but neither of you cared.
You propped yourself up on your elbow and looked down at him. Alexander Dane, famously uptight and grumpy, never looked so relaxed as he did after a good orgasm.
The alcohol must have still been in your system, because your next words came out unbidden, taking both of you by surprise, even though you’d known for a while now that they were true.
“I love you, Alex.”
He opened his eyes and smiled. Lips met yours, and he pulled you on top of him so he could kiss you deeper.
His amber eyes glowed with admiration as he looked at you, admiring every inch of your face.
Alexander (Grimm) - Crossover AU - Chapter 40 - Final
It took a while to walk into Alexander’s office and not be as red as a cherry.
It’s funny how things tend to work out. You can’t help but smile at how it all transpired. You’re on your way to the local coffee shop. Alexander knows how you get when you haven’t gotten your tea. As you’re walking, your focus is diverted when you feel the vibration of your phone. You slide it out of your pocket, still walking forward.
“Looking as beautiful as ever Ms. Jane.”
You laugh at the message, texting back.
“How can you tell?”
You smile, awaiting the response.
“Look up.”
You do, and he’s standing by the door of said coffee shop. He reaches for the handle, opening it.
“After you.”
You walk over, tiptoeing as you leave a kiss on his cheek with a smile. Once you pull away, he shares your smile, following you inside. You both find a seat after you’ve ordered.
“So how is crime fighting going with my dad? “
He’d told you about the case he worked with the FBI a few weeks ago. Since then their paths have crossed a few more times.
“He is quite an interesting man. I see where you get your reckless behavior and addiction for tea from.”
“It’s not an addiction, I can stop at any time!”
The statement urges a memory, one that makes Alexander smile to himself.
“So when are you planning to pop the question?”
Jane’s statement made Alexander stiffen. After the most recent take down of a criminal organization, they were both in the conference room. Alexander was packing his briefcase while Lisbon and the others were busy at their respective desks sifting through paperwork.
“Pardon?”
Jane just smiled.
“When are you going to ask my daughter to marry you?”
It couldn’t get much clearer than that.
Alexander looks stunned.
“How did you-”
“I’m not as clueless as you might think.”
The statement didn’t seem completely directed at the discovery of his feelings. Alexander narrowed his eyes, and Jane felt appreciative for the one on one.
“I know about Wesen, I know you’re one of them and I know that somehow my daughter is now a Grimm.”
If he were expecting anything, it wasn’t that. Alexander’s eyes glowed, but when he saw no reaction, it became clear that Jane was not one himself. He wasn’t sure what to say.
Jane expected as much.
“When we spoke to her a few weeks ago, we could tell something was wrong. She seemed withdrawn, sad. Then that all changed. I might not have the gift, but I’ve met a few Grimms in my time, and their mannerisms are the same. “
Alexander felt like he should expect nothing less from Jane. Now he felt guilty, because if Jane knew about Grimms, then he knew everything. All of it. His head lowered in shame.
“I should have done a better job at-”
“Protecting her?”
Alexander refused to lift his head, and all Jane could offer was a light pat on the shoulder.
“I’ve done my best to protect my daughter all my life. After what happened with my family I.. I told myself that whoever (Y/N) ended up with, I would ensure that they were the right one. I know for a fact that person is you. I can say without a doubt that the only person that loves my daughter more than my wife and I, is you.”
Alexander looked up, and the smile on Jane’s face felt like everything he needed. That reassurance.
“Regardless of what happened, she’s safe now. I have a feeling that’s because of you and your friends. In the past, all the other people she’s ever worked with, to them, she was just an asset, a tool. But in Portland, she has a family. There’s nothing else a parent can hope for regarding their child.”
Jane lowered his hand, and he could see the weight of that burden slowly leave his Alexander’s shoulders. The weight he’d been wearing for the last few jobs together. When Alexander reached into the pocket of his coat and pulled out the small square black box, Jane’s smile got bigger. Alexander merely chuckled. He should have known better than to try to hide such a thing from someone like Jane.
“I’ve been holding onto it for a few weeks. More than anything I would like to make (Y/N) my wife. From the moment we met there’s just been something there. “
Jane’s eye strayed to the side, glancing at Lisbon at her desk.
“I completely understand.”
He looked back at Alexander who still seemed hesitant, gripping the box in his hand.
“We haven’t known each other for very long and with the discovery of her new abilities, there may be uncertainty on her part.”
“Do you love her?”
“With every bone in my body.”
Jane appreciated the honesty.
“Then you have nothing to worry about. Despite what has happened, you’re still at her side. If your feelings were that fleeting, you would have bolted the second you learned about what she was truly capable of. If you love her, then you need to have faith that your love, as well as hers is enough.”
Such simple words held so much weight. Alexander found himself sharing the smile Jane wore. Sliding the box back into his pocket, he nodded.
“When the moment is right, you will know.”
Jane’s words were exactly what he needed.
Sitting in the coffee shop, looking at you go on about a case, Alexander realized that Jane was right. The both of you have gone through what most people could only dream of. Yet you’re still standing. Faith was all he needed. Because there was a reason that you’d ended up in Portland.
If he could befriend not one, but two Grimms, then the future, one with you, it must be exactly what he’s hoped for, always wanted.
He’s happy.
“Do you want some more coffee?”
The waitress was holding the small pot, watching him expectantly.
Alexander blinked, nodding.
“Yes, thank you.”
He hadn’t even realized that he ran out.
The woman poured him a fresh cup, sending a smile. The way her face lit up made him pause, eyes a bit narrowed. There was something familiar about her.
“Pardon, but have we met before?”
She gave a nervous smile, shaking her head as she brushed a lock behind her ear.
“D-Definitely not.”
She couldn’t have been older than twenty, and you looked over to gauge the interaction. You were a bit puzzled yourself, because she did look familiar. Her hair reminded you a lot of your own. The way it tended to be early in the morning. But her eyes, if you had to guess, you would say they were similar to Alexander’s.
“Well, enjoy your breakfast!”
She gave one last smile before she was heading back behind the desk, right into the kitchen. Both you and Alexander exchanged a look.
“That..”
Alexander started.
“It couldn’t be..”
You mumble.
It must have been your imagination.
You both share a smile, laughing at the silly idea. Alexander reaches over, taking your hand, and in that moment, you feel truly content.

Last part <-
You walked quietly, used to walking but not used to having people like this around. You were pushed and shoved along till you finally reached the little palace. The place was grand as expected and told from stories, but the darkness it held was uninviting. You needed some water but they didn’t give you anything for the day's travel. It was almost nighttime as you entered the little palace, you were scared of the shadows even if they were natural.
“Move it” The woman behind you shoved you again and you stumbled and fell. You were weak and needed something to drink and eat. Something flew over your head though and you heard a thump behind you. You froze seeing blood slowly pooling out the side of your eye. You kept your head down ignoring the alpha in front of you, hoping to be swallowed up by the earth.
“I never liked her,” he said sighing making you shudder. You wanted to move away so the blood didn’t touch your shoes but it was too late. Your stomach churned and you swallowed down the bile that threatened. You froze again though seeing black boots in front of you. You whimpered when a hand touched your face and made you look up. It was him, the darkling only this time in person.
“You look starving” he commented with a frown.
“Did they not give you anything to eat or drink?” He asked and you were too scared to answer.
“Answer me, omega,” he said rather softly and you shook your head making him growl.
“Stand up” he commanded holding out his hand for you, you did too afraid to disobey him. You stood too close though, a black Kefta in your view. You couldn’t help breathing him in, not liking how your body shuddered in delight at it. You stepped back taking a glance at him, he had a smirk on his face as he let your hand go.
“Come,” he said and turned to walk. You contemplated running away but glanced at the dead body behind you and decided against it. You followed him quickly through the halls, too afraid to appreciate their beauty. He headed to a large dining area you were surprised at the many tables and chairs. He went to the head of the left table, pulling out a chair and gesturing for you to sit. You did ignoring the way your body shook. He hummed softly disappearing into the next room. You frowned slightly looking around the room, there were no windows in this area, saints know the many turns you took to get here, and you’d probably get lost. You tried to take deep breaths, but the darkling came back out, platter in hand.
“Fruits and water,” he said placing it down in front of you. He sat down by you and you stared at the fresh fruit. You glanced at him warily as he watched you. You couldn’t deny your body sustenance though and took a small sip of water.
“Good girl” his voice rumbled approvingly and you ignored the heat creeping into your body.
He fed you a warm meal after that, the cook looking scared also. Did everyone here live in fear?
After you finished you felt guilty about eating and taking food from the enemy, but if you were to fight back you’d need strength. The darkling led you to a room, there was a war table in the middle along with books along the wall and a door on either wall. You hesitantly stood by the entrance door as the darkling moved over to the desk filled with papers. A knock came behind you making you jump and flinch. The darkling looked up and went to the door making you quickly get out of the way.
“You sent my lord” You heard a soft woman’s voice.
“Genya” he breathed and you frowned slightly at the tone.
“I have a guest,” he said simply and you stared at the floor.
“Please attend to her,” he said and you glanced seeing him leave. Your mouth hung open slightly as a woman stepped in a case in her hand. She had scars on her face too, an eyepatch covering one eye.
“My name is Genya,” she said smiling softly despite her fear.
“I’m sorry” she whispered.
“He likes to take omegas” she added and you tensed.
“Use them, I um-“ she gulped and your stomach dropped. Your knees buckled and you fell harshly to the floor as you suddenly knew your fate. You felt tears well in your eyes as you began to cry. Genya knelt by you a hand on your arm as she tried to hush you. She too was an alpha, scared and beaten into submission.
“How about a warm bath?” She offered and stood nodding. You kept your eyes on the floor as you heard the water begin to run. She came back and helped you off the floor and into the bathroom, she sat you down on a chair and left momentarily and brought back her case. She opened it and you glanced seeing her take out a brush. She stood behind you, gently untying your hair and began brushing it. The gesture was odd, but somehow it reminded you of your mother when you were young and she’d brush your hair. She finished brushing your hair and stopped the bath.
“I’ll have these clothes washed for you,” she said as you stood slowly. You hesitated getting undressed and she went to stand outside the bathroom door.
“Just call me when you’re done, there are soaps there” She turned and pointed before closing the door. You stripped your clothing and tied your hair up before sitting in the warm tub, crying softly at the feeling. Your muscles eased by the warmth, so different from cold springs. You hugged your knees, staring at the steam slowly rising from the water. You glanced at the soaps and sighed reaching for them and the sponge. You washed the dirt from your body watching the bath slowly get bubbly. You kept fighting tears and failing, watching the drip into the bath sometimes. Once the water began to lose its warmth you stepped out and grabbed the towel. You dried off avoiding the mirror that you glanced too. You looked at the case before glancing at the door. You quietly looked through hoping that some sort of weapon would be there. It was only jars of different things and beauty tools. You sighed in defeat and called Genya in. Nobody answered or opened the door and you frowned. You peered out the door seeing an empty room, no sign of Genya or the darkling. You didn’t see your clothes either but spotted the darkling Kefta. You tried to be quiet as you grabbed it and tugged it on. You awkwardly did it up before turning around to leave. You froze though as you saw an amused Darkling in front of you.
“I do have clothes for you,” he said holding some in his hands.
“Though I like this look much better” he smirked and you wanted to tear it off if weren’t for your nakedness underneath. He stepped forward, laying the clothes down on a chair while you stood like a frozen deer. You watched him though as he came into your personal space and lifted his hand. He rested it on your cheek and you tried your hardest not to flinch. He hummed softly gently stroking your cheek. You wanted to slap his hand away, yell at him anything, you found comfort in it though, warmth and safeness in his scent. Saints help you.
Out of the Darkness pt.1 (Darkling x reader story)
This is my first time writing for Tumblr, enjoy.
“How did you cross the fold?” a voice asked.
I was brought into this tent the minute I had crossed onto the other side of the fold, I knew who he was, everyone did. It was the dead of night I shouldn’t have been seen, that wasn’t the plan. I did encounter in the plan that I expected some soldiers and Grisha to be awake or even outside but no one watching the fold.
“I wasn’t supposed to be spotted, I was just meant to sneak by,” I said not moving mt feet, he was somewhere in this room, hidden in one of his shadows.
The stinge of being correct surged through confidently as he stepped forward, his black attire with him, he stood tall, bold, brave. I took in a slow breath, deep breath. Almost invisible to the human eye.
“I asked, how did you cross the fold?” his voice more demanding this time, sharper, he took another step forward as the silence swirled around us. His presence was almost like a rock on my chest, one that lay too much pressure, the atmosphere tense.
“I walked, Sir,” I answered finally, not flinching as he now freely moved around the black pavilion, the perfect home for him and his shadows.
“You would have died. Should have died,” he said sharply, his hand crunching into fists and then crumbling apart as he tried to pry out the information. I had nothing to say to that, what could I say? In one smooth motion he rushed the guards out of the tent.
He leaned back against one of the beautiful, smooth tables that decorated his space, taking a glass off it, filled with whiskey or kvas for sure.
It was the late hours of the night, maybe even early hours of the next day, he was putting a real slow pace in my plan, I should be kilometres away from here now, nearer to her next stop.
“No otkazat’sya has ever trailed the fold by themselves and survived,” he examined, he spoke as if to a child, like I didn’t understand what I just did, or maybe he thought I was lying. but maybe I could sense a little pride in his tone, “unless you’re not an otkazat’sya,” his fingers explored, tapping the glass, brow raising slightly. Though still I’ve never heard of ay Grisha crossing the fold by themsleves either.
“What are you?” he asked, his tone snaked with darkness, as if it was merely a describing word. He took one more swing of the liquid and laid down his glass back onto the table, gently.
This was not how I imagined the general, the darkling, he was far too peaceful, too calm for my liking. It was unnerving more than anything.
“A runaway, general, from a bad home,” I said, swapping my body weight from one leg onto the other. He pushed himself off the table and took painfully slow steps my way. It was the way he presented himself, so nutral yet so demanding too.
“Then how does a runaway cross the deadly fold that thousands have died crossing in big groups, groups that knew the way, groups that had grisha and soldiers? How did you do it?” he asked again, I wasn’t nervous as he moved towards me, until I could smell the smoke and fresh air drifting off of him.
I merely let myself blink once, I couldn’t trust him to not do anything to me, he was right in front of me, looking down, into my yes, trying to read me, my thoughts, if he moved his head any lower I’d be able to feel his breath on me. His look wasn’t depreciating per say, but I lifted a little taller, my clothes were ripped and in bad condition yet I managed to stand as proud as him.
I didn’t dare break the eye contact for a long minute, until I felt his hand lifting, he grabbed my wrist and I felt cold metal about to dig into my skin.
Quickly I shuffled back fire in my palms, at first his grip was tight and I couldn’t quite pull away but the fire was a surprise, he let go of my arms and I actually stumbled a few steps backwards. How did I let that happen?
“Inferni” he whispered, taking a step back himself, like trying to calm down a wild animal, “When were you tested?” He asked, my breaths were uneven, he was so close to harming me, to ruining me. Him seeing my fire was a sacrifice I had to make, one I wasn’t willing to make unless everything was on the line. He made it all crumble own so swiftly. The walls I took years to build tumbled at one of his actions.
I watched him move his ring back onto it’s proper finger.
“A few nights ago our sun summoner got discovered, as I’m sure you have heard,” he explained, standing still, his calm demeanour not moving a muscle, “I have merely come back for a few things before returning to the little palace, you will be returning with me,” he said, and I gulped down.
Out of everything he could have said that was not what I had expected.
I tried to protest, but then I felt the ghost of his hand on her wrist, it sent my spine through a spiral of nerves and excitement. I hated it but wanted to feel it again. He was the forbidden fruit that every grisha carved and for the first time I could understood why.
That was another reason why I had decided to cross on this very night, I had heard the news of the new sankta so boldly I assumed he’d be watching her at the Little Palace. Had I given it another day or two he would have been gone and I would have been safe. Now, I didn’t know what was ahead of me. What I would have to face.
“We will be leaving in the early hours of the morning, you will be in a tent with my Oprichniki until then,” he told me, his voice danced around in the tent, it wasn’t perhaps as dark as outside, with the few candles lit but the darkness was homing in around us. Around me.
“Will I be held prisoner?” I dared to ask, the words slipping from behind my lips without permission, subconsciously I took a step towards him, waiting, my hands joining together behind my back, so hard that my knuckles seemed to go white, or at least so I imagined.
A hint of a smile passed over his face, “We are all prisoners, of our mind. Our abilities. Ravka.” The cold in his tone passed a shiver down my spine, but I refused to move to show weakness, he had me right where he wanted me, and I was sure of it. “You will not be my prisoner Inferni, what is you name?” he asked, too taking a step forward, his voice numbing into a whisper.
“Y/n,” my hands twitched behind my back.
“Show me your power Y/n” he said in an almost question tone but commands ran over his skin, absorbed his muscle, I was ashamed, embarrassed as my hands move in front of me but nothing came from it, I told herself it was because I was weak. There was no other answer without breaking down.
He took another steps towards me.
Still nothing, but when I felt the threat of him grabbing onto my hand again I took a step back. Pulling away from that magnetic call, addiction was easier to gain than remove, I liked to consider herself strong but I didn’t have much faith with the calling for me. I wanted to be wanted, to finally have a place where I belonged and that need was much larger than my stubbornness, much stronger than what I knew was right. I simply couldn’t allow it.
“You have no control, you were never tested were you?” his voice like a wave on in the middle of the ocean, during a calm night, I could pretend I heard sympathy somewhere mixed in with his words but I wouldn’t allow herself to be fooled.
Instead I shook her head and he nodded before calling out to his guards which came into the tent as quietly and monotony as they left, he requested they took me to the closest tent to his as they could and to guard it all around.
He may have said I wasn’t a prisoner, but he didn’t have to mean any of the words he just said, it felt like I was a prisoner but he was the general, he did as he pleased, and I would be no exception. I was now under his possession and the minute I get behind the palace walls I will never leave again. Not myself.
For that very reason the moment I was moved into a smaller tent I started planning out my escape.
Sometimes when you work on a project, there are moments when you need to take a break and work on something else. That’s really the case with In The Night, I have all these ideas but sometimes I feel confined to ITN (I literally have not started Chapter 3 when this is posted). And thus this fic was born. I hope you enjoy!
Y/N and Lafayette’s POV
Bridgerton inspired AU (watching the Bridgerton series would probably help in understanding ideas of ‘courting’ and finding a suitors)
Odd social structure (dukes are essentially owners of land which was popularized in London, Washington is considered a president, and Lafayette is now a prince!)

—-the Washington residence
The dreamy clouds would stream across the sky as Y/N began to read the newest article from Thomas Paine, the most notorious writer known for acknowledging every piece of gossip and whispers among the noble colonists.
The pamphlet felt newly written, as few spots of the odd-smelling ink would smudge. Though Y/N was not awake, a young boy delivered this meticulous pamphlet to the Washington residence before dawn.
As the daughter of the president, being the center of noble gossip was nothing new to her, in fact, gossip was never the center of her attention either. But something about this pamphlet in particular would surely catch her eye.
She began to read:
‘The scene for this courting season is looking quite interesting. Now that these young ladies are finally of age, they will indeed add competition to the scene.’
Ah yes, the annual courting season. A time for women and men to make their move and commence into the adult world. While many aren’t satisfied with their partners, reputation seems to grow higher than feelings.
‘Many pertinent names are included in this season, and I’m honored to document the presence of these people.’
‘The Schuylers: all three of the incredible General Schuyler’s daughters are finally entering the courting scene simultaneously. During the war, many soldier boys would fall head over heels to impress them, and many were unsuccessful. I’m ecstatic to observe the lucky men to take the hand of Angelica, Elizabeth, and Peggy Schuyler.’
‘The Payne’s: Miss Dolley Payne has finally been granted entrance into this courting season. Many theories and speculation suggest that her arrival to the scene at the same time as the other great names was not a coincidence.’
‘And finally, the most significant family joining us this season,’
Y/N sucked in a breath
‘The Washington’s: His grace’s pride and joy, Y/N, will be the most imperative competition this season. The pressure of being the president’s daughter, as well as the stigma of conceiving an heir, follow her wherever she resides. Nonetheless, Y/N Washington is an extraordinary star among the courting scene, and it would indeed be foolish to throw away your shot.’
‘It’s just common sense.’
‘-Thomas Paine’
It would take Y/N a couple moments before her squeals of excitement could be heard across the residence
Shortly after, the rumbles of Y/N racing down the stairs would cause her parents, George and Martha, to take suspicious glances at each other. Y/N finally reached the dinner table where her parents were finishing up their morning tea.
“What’s got you going so early, dear? I usually have to pull you out of bed around this time,” Martha questioned
“Sir Payne wrote about me in the paper! My entrance to the courting scene seems to be the most glittering cluster of ink in this pamphlet” She squealed
Y/N excitedly, yet also harshly, slid the pamphlet over to her parents, moments later they would observe her words to be true
“That’s great, dear” Her father, George, looked up from the paper with a smile. “I know you’ll represent the Washington Family name well, although it’s a shame you’ll have to lose it when you get married” he sighed
“Oh lighten up George, Y/N will be the talk of the town, I’m sure she’ll attract some worthy gentleman”
“Damn right he better be worthy.” His eyes transferred from Martha to Y/N
“Remember Y/N, very few are prepared to handle a Washington, you can even ask your mother.”
Y/N couldn’t hold in a giggle as Martha rolled her eyes. Both Y/N and George watched as Martha arose to place her porcelain dishes in the sink
“Well I must be soo blessed to have to take care of two of them.”
George turned back to Y/N and slid her a letter across the table, keeping another letter in his opposite hand, which was still unopened
“May I ask what this is?” She held up the letter. Even the feeling of the paper could tell Y/N that it came from the colonial gentry. The scent faintly reminded Y/N of champagne and flowers, and the seal was a sparkling coral-pink shade. The letter appeared to be already opened
“The Schuyler’s are inviting you to a small tea get-together, whatever you kids call it.”
Y/N opened the envelope, searching for the details. How exciting was this, to be among the best of the best, especially in the greatest city in the world. Before she could reply, George began to speak again
“I’ve already requested for two escorts to accompany you on your way to the Schuyler residence.” Y/N turned to him in confusion
“Huh?” She questioned “escorts?”
“Now that you’re officially in this courting season, your safety could be potentially in danger. I’m just trying to make you comfortable” He retorted
“Father, I’m sure I’m capable of walking on my own. I mean, the Schuyler residence isn’t even that far and-”
Y/N was interrupted by multiple knocks on her door. She shot a ‘this isn’t over’ glare to her father before wandering over to her front door. She opened the door and found a surprise
The Duke of Monticello and the Duke of Manhattan, my father’s two trusted secretaries. Dropping the formalities, Y/N addressed them by their first name
“Thomas? Alexander? Don’t tell me..” she turned back to her father. Jefferson and Hamilton stood at the doorway, both with flowers and nervous in the presence of Washington
“Father, I’m starting to question whether you worry for my safety, or worry for your pickiness of my suitor.” Thomas and Alex attempted to hold in their laughs as if their lives depended on it
“Of course I do!” He held a hand to his chest as if he was hurt “although I do owe them a favor-” a smirk spread across Thomas’s and Alexander’s face, yet was quickly faded as Washington addressed them
“But no funny business with my daughter. If I hear of any shenanigans from either one of you, you both have serious consequences.” Y/N turned back to the dukes, both of them appearing drained of color.
“Let me get dolled up and we can be on our way” Y/N swiftly ran upstairs, leaving Thomas and Alexander alone in the presence of their boss. Those poor, poor, boys
Five minutes later, Y/N glided down the stairs in her fancier skirt. Her corset gave her an amazing shape, and her hair made her appear to be a celestial being. She caught the dukes’ eyes lingering on her for a little too long. Luckily, Washington wasn’t around. “Let’s keep our focus on what’s really matters, guys” she laughed
“R-right...” they said in unison, both turning away and pretending to be interested in the furniture in the house. Y/N had never seen the two secretaries so calm around each other, it made her realize the power the Washington’s have in the colonies. A simple order from a Washington could probably end wars, especially if it’s capable of making Jefferson and Hamilton contain their pride
“Your graces?” She held out her hands, signifying that she was ready to depart. The dukes held out their forearm and elbows for her to take. Y/N intertwined her arms into theirs, and they headed for the Schuyler residence.
A few minutes down the path and Alexander Hamilton decided to break the silence
“I still can’t believe you’re entering this season, Y/N. I mean, I still remember running around those horrid military camps all those years ago” he chuckled. It’s true, it’s been all these years since the war and so much has changed
“I like to believe I’ve grown into a wonderful, young woman, don’t you think?” I batted my eyelashes towards both of them
“Of course darlin’” Jefferson cut in “but just because we’re your honorable colleagues doesn’t mean Hamilton and I won’t be lining up for your hand”
“Don’t be so sure. I heard this season has a few aggressive competitors on both sides. The Schuylers, the Paynes, even the Madisons! I might have to step up my game. In the meantime, both of you have to keep an open mind.”
Thomas and Hamilton stared at each other, surprised by her response.
“And If I find out that both of you placed bets on which one of you will earn my hand, I’ll be reminding my father to collect both of your heads.”
Their heads hung in defeat “alright, alright darlin’ I think I kind of like my head attached to my body. No need to get violent.”
“Plus I don’t think any of you can truly handle a Washington.” Y/N giggled, her arms still intertwined with theirs
“If Jefferson and I don’t scare away the competition, I’m sure your father will” Alexander chuckled, Thomas visibly reacted to the joke as well
“Oh come on, the two most popular dukes of the colonies have nothing on a suitor that is truly worthy of me” she scoffed
“And where would you find such a worthy contestant? Someone better than a duke?” The three stopped in front of the Schuyler residence
“Don’t kill my hopes, a Washington has her ways” Y/N removed her arms from Thomas’s and Alexander’s, heading for the front door. As soon as she was greeted by General Schuyler herself, she waved goodbye to the clashing dukes
“She’s so mine, Hamilton.” Thomas stated
“I’m sure you should be worried about your tomcat nature, Jefferson, don’t get too ahead of yourself” Alex retorted
Jefferson audibly scoffed before wandering with him into the city
—-France
3 weeks prior to Y/N reading that exciting pamphlet, Marquis de Lafay-- Now Prince Lafayette sat around a table of French nobles and officials. It felt like ages since he’s been in the colonies, and it has only been a few years ever since the French Revolution had ended. Yet instead of abolishing the monarchy system in France as Lafayette promised to the colonies, he and a few other nobles replaced the previous royal family.
Lafayette was later titled as a Prince, as were other leading men of France, but he urged to continue being addressed as the ‘Hero of two worlds’.
But with a new era upon the people of France, came the countless government meetings and conflicts that he had to resolve.
“Your Majesty? Are you even paying attention?” Secretary Robespierre whispered over his shoulder, causing him to visibly straighten himself out.
“O-Oui. Why wouldn’t I be?” Lafayette laughed nervously, scratching the back of his head. Robespierre rolled his eyes before whispering again.
“This is our last meeting of the day. With all due respect sir, can you get yourself together?”
“Okay, Okay.” Lafayette sighed with boredom
He missed the colonies dearly, sometimes he wished he never left at all, but seeing his country yearn for a revolution compelled him to sail across the Atlantic once again. He often daydreamed of his riskier lifestyle with his closest friends and soldiers, as well as the feeling of awe while serving directly under General Washington. Never in his life did Lafayette think he would miss the adrenaline rush of stealing cannons and leading fully arm battalions.
His teenage memories of fooling around in those military camps, wandering the streets of New York City severely intoxicated, and the best memories of all, the memories of escorting the General’s daughter, Y/N Washington, to buy bread and pastries for him and his fellow soldiers.
Oh, what could she be doing now?
If it weren’t for the revolution at hand, Lafayette would’ve surely bent a knee once she set foot onto the military camping grounds. Lafayette held such a high respect for Y/N when they first met, especially since she was the daughter of his most admired general. The women in France just couldn’t compare to her heavenly beauty, and her kindness was unbeatable. She was the greatest treasure that Lafayette had stumbled across during his time in the colonies. Although many noblewomen would attempt to take a bite of him, Lafayette stayed loyal to his non-existent promise to Y/N.
A quick quill-slam to the table, and he was quickly drawn back to his reality. Why should he worry about his previous General’s daughter anyway? Lafayette was now a Prince, he could have anything he wanted. But the moment he set foot in France after the American Revolution, he lost the most precious things he already had. He yearned for glory, but at what cost? The cost of abandoning his bonds in the colonies?
He sighed, standing from the meeting table and wandering to his quarters. Secretary Robespierre followed closely behind him. Sensing an odd tension from Lafayette’s mood, Robespierre attempted to address his situation
“Do you need anything, your majesty?” Lafayette froze in his tracks, weighing his two options
“Actually...” Lafayette turned to face him “Schedule me a ship to the colonies. The earliest one you can find.”
Robespierre tilted his head in confusion, letting the last sentence sizzle in his head.
“I’m sorry, what?”
The prince in distress sighed with fatigue. “I’ve decided I’m heading to the colonies, tout suite.” Lafayette kept his gaze strong
‘B-but sir, you have so much to take care of-” Robespierre was notably panicking at this moment. “-and the recent shortages-”
“Mon Ami, there are at least three other ‘crowned princes’ who are perfectly capable of maintaining this nation. One prince gone won’t hurt the economy” Prince Lafayette stated firmly
Robespierre debated for a moment before confirming his thoughts “Alright. I’ll notify you when the earliest ship can be sailed. But what shall you do about the gossip? Perhaps they will believe you are not responsible enough for this role.”
“Let the people speak as they please. In the end, I’ll remind them who’s in charge.” Lafayette began towards his quarters once again, Robespierre stayed behind to script all of his thoughts.
Finally in his study, Lafayette dipped his quill into the nearest container of ink and started to write.
‘To the Great General Washington, It’s been ages since we’ve last written…’
Maybe Lafayette will be able to have a taste of his old life.
---the Schuyler residence
Giggling echoed throughout the Schuyler residence as the 5 girls enjoyed their tea.
“Have you gals read Payne’s newest pamphlet? We’re the talk of the town as of now” Angelica, the oldest Schuyler, smiled with satisfaction. Her luminous complexion complemented her coral pink gown.
“I never expected our courting debut to be so..” Eliza searched for the right words “..turbulent among the talkers..” she took a sip of her tea
“I’m still stunned by the feedback” Y/N laughed nervously “My father even requested his two most clashing secretaries to escort me here, they didn’t even argue once” she said in awe
The top 5 girls of the season all sat in one room. Though they would eventually become each other's courting competition, they were great friends nonetheless. During the war, Y/N would stay in the Schuyler household while their fathers were out of town daydreaming of being free from the king, attending a few balls together, and watching soldier boys trip over themselves. After the war ended, Dolley Paine became a mutual connection through their high ranking families. The 5 got along way too quickly.
Peggy held up the tea pot “another fill, ladies?” Y/N and Dolley nodded, both taking their turns to fill their cups.
“Awee, look at you Peggy, you’ll make a perfect wife” Dolley teased. The rest of the girls laughed it off, yet Y/N didn’t feel at ease with that statement.
“You don’t actually think we will all get married that quickly, do you?” Y/N looked around to see their confused expressions. “Guys?”
“Well..” Angelica pondered for a moment “I believe that it’s ideal to marry on your first season”
Peggy had to stop herself from spitting out her tea
“That soon? But we’re so young, and-” Eliza interrupted
“And we’re ladies. Society expects us to do nothing more and nothing less with what we’re given” Angelica takes a content sip of her tea once again “I don’t make the rules around here.”
The silence was awfully louder than the conversation.
“Alright.” Dolley smiled “I guess we'll just have to make this next few weeks extra special, right?”
Y/N took a deep breath “the best of the best.” She muttered
Peggy turned to her and nodded, and Eliza was quick to join. Y/N faked a smile at the girls, ‘I guess that’s just how it is’ is what she thought, and Angelica would raise her glass for a toast
“A toast to the best courting season?” The 4 other girls raised their glass as well.
Though many hours were filled with laughter and giggles, Y/N couldn’t help but imagine how much her life would change within the next few months. And just by entering this season, Y/N will give up her youth and give someone her hand to please someone. To please herself? To please the people? To please her parents? She had no clue
She stared out the window, remembering those nights of staying at the Schuyler residence, watching those drunk soldiers stumble across the street. Many of them were her friends, friends she had met through her fathers rank. She smiled at the thought of the most memorable gentleman she had met while at those camps.
‘The French Foreigner’ is what they used to call him, but only before he became comfortable in the colonies. ‘Marquis de Lafayette’ was his title, and Y/N always loved the sound of his name rolling off her tongue.
“I don’t know what my father told you, but I’m sure I don’t need you to accompany me simply to buy bread” Y/N stood stubbornly
Lafayette gently grabbed her hand and raised it to his lips
“I just want you to be safe, mon ange, I wouldn’t be able to live with myself if you got hurt..”
He kissed the back of her hand, maintaining eye contact. Y/N appeared as if she just experienced a revelation “..shall we be on our way, mademoiselle?”
She took a moment to think, her head still in the clouds. Y/N slowly nodded “Alright.” The two intertwined arms and headed into the city
Oh how she missed the old days. Y/N hated to admit it, but she truly believed she met the most exquisite gentlemen during the war. Whenever she’d stay at the camps with her father, a small group of soldiers would always keep her company. A tailor, an abolitionist, two immigrants, the camps were definitely a mixing pot.
At that very moment, Y/N prayed she’d be able to find someone like the men at her fathers military camp during this courting season.
Y/N jumped at the tapping on her shoulder
“Y/N? Don’t tell me you already have suitors lining up out there for you” Y/N shook her head and laughed
“I just spaced out. That’s all.” She attempted to change the subject “What were we talking about?” She questioned
Peggy interrupted “Next week's ball, the first ball of the season. Do we show up in our best, or do we build suspense until the last seasonal ball?” Peggy debated
“Let’s take one ball at a time, shall we?” Eliza proposed her idea
“Well for the first ball, I suggest….” All the girls gathered around Angelica to hear her plan
—-Lafayette’s quarters (France)
Prince Lafayette neatly folded his clothes as he was departing for the colonies within a few hours. He remembers the excitement he felt when he traveled to the colonies for the first time, having to dress like a pregnant woman in order to board the ship, but he still cringes at the imagery.
He elegantly stuffed his belongings into his shoulder bag. He stood back to admire his rushed work, but he felt as if he was missing something.
Lafayette looked around his quarters, his eyes became glued on his treasured gun, gifted to him by General Washington himself. The wooden hilt was stained with god knows what, but the gold trimmings were shining in the afternoon sunlight.
He’d already have French soldiers accompanying him, he was a prince after all. Would he need such weaponry?
“I do not see why not.” He muttered to himself before stuffing it into his bag with the rest of his belongings. Lafayette dusted off his fancy clothing and stood in triumph, well, before a woman cleared her throat behind him.
Lady Adrienne stood at the doorway to his study, her emerald green skirts creased against the doorframe. Lafayette and Adrienne previously courted before he left for the colonies, which ended up being her last straw. Lady Adrienne attempted to stop him, since she was a loyalist to the monarchs of France, but Lafayette refused to listen.
“que veux-tu? I'm busy at the moment.” Lafayette covered his bag with a nearby coat, crossing his arms.
“I heard you’re going back to the colonies. What’s so special across the ocean that you can’t have here? You’re a prince for god sake”
“It’s none of your concern, get out of-”
“Last time you left for the colonies- left me for the colonies- you just weren’t the same when you came back.” she was on the verge of yelling
Lafayette sighed, having already been through this conversation ever since he came back to France.
“This is nonsense. I need to be alone as of now.” Lafayette turned away from her to continue packing his belongings. She had a hurt expression on her face; part of her mind refused to believe he wasn’t her suitor anymore. Ever since he left for the colonies.
She slowly began to advance towards him. “That is no way to talk to your previous courting partner, Lafayette.” Her tone was strong yet unsure.
“It’s Prince Lafayette to you, and there’s a reason why we’re not courting now..” He was notably irritated by her presence.
Lady Adrienne wasn’t leaving his quarters until she was given an answer.
“Was I not enough for you to stay in France…?” she rested a hand on his shoulders, Lafayette visibly cringed. “What’s in the colonies that you can’t have here?”
Lafayette swiftly turned towards her, brushing her hand off of his shoulder in disgust. “I don’t have to answer to you—“ he attempted to retort
“—Don’t tell me you’re still mad that I had more faith in the monarchs of our country rather than you”
Lady Adrienne rolled her eyes annoyingly, Lafayette blood had already begun boiling long ago. She started moving closer to Lafayette, attempting to trap him in his room, and forcing him to stay in France. Although this was her main plan, she wanted an answer, and she wanted it now.
“Your own lover didn’t believe in you. Is that why you’re so upset? It’s quite the reaction for something so minuscule—” she scoffed.
Lafayette snapped
“—as a matter of fact, you weren’t my lover. It’s not you, its...”
Lafayette, clearly frustrated, struggled to hold up under his old friend’s gaze. She saw it in his eyes, the way they lightened when he thought about the colonies.
She saw a similar light in them the day he returned from France. Perhaps it was the praise he obtained for the foreign war, or perhaps some treasures he discovered, or maybe someone.
“Lafayette... Did you find another partner in the colonies?”
The panic was visible in his eyes, but there no was no reason to panic, he thought.
Lafayette brushed up against lady Adrienne, his lips were millimeters from her ear. He began
“Our relationship ended from the moment I set foot on that ship, and I do not regret it one bit..”
He stepped out of her reach and continued to pack away his belongings, Lady Adrienne was frozen with shock.
“My business in the colonies is my business only,” He stated strongly. “And you are free to believe whatever you want, it would benefit me in the least to care about what you think. Am I being clear?”
Lady Adrienne could only stand in silence
“Security! I’d love for you to escort this maiden out of this quarters at once!”
He’d never forget the hatred in her eyes as she was humiliatingly taken away. Lafayette kept his mind on his current task: the colonies await his arrival.
