So, in Brazilian reproductive rights news, the prosecutor of the case of the 11 year old raped pregnant girl kept in a shelter for weeks to be stopped from having her lawful abortion has now requested the remains of the fetus in order to investigate cause of death.

Even though the girl's abortion was legal (in Brazil, the procedure is allowed only in cases of rape, anencephaly, and risk to pregnant person health or life), prosecutor Mirela Dutra Alberton demands the verification of whether a procedure was performed to interrupt the heartbeat before the removal of the fetus.

Federal deputy Alexandre Padilha (Workers' Party) added to the representation in the National Council of the Public Ministry (CNMP) against prosecutor Mirela Dutra Alberton and judge Joana Ribeiro Zimmer, who infamously asked the victim if she could "hold on a little longer", if she had already thought of a name for the baby, and what the "father" thought of giving them up for adoption.

"As if the embarrassment of the raped child and his mother were not enough, now they seek to embarrass the health teams that were guaranteeing a legal right and not a crime. Criminalizing those who seek and who guarantee a right is a step to reduce access to it.", says Padilha.

Alberton has now left the case on June 30th, after two investigations on her conduct were open, One by the Internal Affairs Office of the Santa Catarina State Public Ministry and the other by the CNMP. Zimmer had left the case on June 15th due to a transference for a promotion.
