Ruined Moments { @alexxlawrence }
In twenty-seven years Lecia had never seen anything like what had happened that morning. Sure she had seen violence in movies, and she did charity work for people who testified to truly horrifying experiences. Witnessing something like this with her own eyes was completely different. She had never seen someone die before, and certainly not because a piece of metal had been rammed through their chest. Picturing it again in her mind made her gag. Tears welled up in her eyes. She blinked several times to push them back.
When she wasn’t staring at the calloused hands in front of her that had dealt the blow, she threw furtive glances at the thick foliage of the jungle. She didn’t know where they were going anymore. Usually he dragged her along for chores, but this place was no where near where there were chores to be done. She swallowed hard, stomping down her fear. Despite the risk of getting lost or running into some godawful creature, Lecia was planning to make a run for it. There was no time to be afraid right now.
First she slowed her steps, letting the distance between herself and the pirate man grow. She waited until Alex was several meters ahead. When she was certain that he wasn’t not looking back, she ducked behind a large bush. Her heart pounded in her ears as she tried to listen, hoping to hear the sound of receding footsteps.
