Edward and Murdoch had accompanied Cassie to Tidmouth sheds following a request to see her from Gordon.
Cassie sat on the turntable. As Gordon spoke, she found herself starting to quiver, leading to her backing away slowly. She managed to stop herself moving long enough to allow for her to listen to what the bigger engine had to say.
"I am being honest when I say that.. ..I'm sorry for scaring you in the way that I did.. The way that I spoke to you is.. ..something that is the result of a habit of mine.. A habit that I want to break.."
Gordon noticed that Cassie was still quivering, and she had started weeping a little as she began to away from him again.
"I don't know if you'll ever be able to talk to me, but.. ..if you do.. ..I'll be here if you want to try again. I do want to make friends with you, but I can see how my actions have made doing so seem impossible.."
Cassie closed her eyes tightly as she backed away fully and reversed until she was near to where Edward and Murdoch were. Gordon continued to observe them working to comfort Cassie and help her to calm down, as she had burst into tears.
"I'm sorry, Cassie.. ..I hope that you find yourself able to accept my apology.."
The bigger engine looked at his buffers for a few minutes before he was given a reminder about his next train. Gordon let out a reassuring sigh before setting off towards the station, making sure not to look in Cassie's direction as he went.
He didn't want to do anything to make things worse for an engine who was scared of him..
