Ash, is on you in an instant the moment his internal sensors register the scent of blood in the air. It hits his systems so sharply that if he were anything but synthetic, he’s sure he’d be gagging from it.

At first his hands are on you, desperately searching for any wound on you and that's when it clicks - embarrassingly slow enough to have surprised even him. He's usually quicker than this!

Once he realizes it's just your menstrual cycle and you're not actually dying, he can breathe a physical sigh of relief. When your cramps start to hit you, he's got the strongest dose of painkillers he can legally give you without accidentally killing you in the process. However, if they don't relent and you're left in stiff awkward positions that'll cause more pain and complications later down the line? He'll have you hooked up to an IV drip of painkillers and fluid - hoping to kill two birds with one stone at once.

Expect heating pads on rotation once they start to cool off, snacks nearby, water within reach and all of your favorite movies and/or TV shows on standby. Literally. Anything you need, he'll be there ready to provide.

Rook, on the other hand, never has to guess. He's been quietly charting the rhythm of your hormones for months - not out of intrusion, but because monitoring your wellbeing gives him a reason to hover without apology. When the first microscopic shift hits your system, he already knows exactly what’s coming.

He takes menstrual pain seriously - deadly seriously - like it's an enemy he intends to outmaneuver. So, he prepares in advance, not with the clinical efficiency of Ash, but with a strange, almost ritualistic precision. A painkiller is placed in your hand nearly an hour before the ache dares to bloom - his version of preemptive strike. By the time the cramps fully settle, the battlefield is already arranged: heating pad warmed, your preferred pillows fluffed into a nest, your comfort snacks lined up.

You don't just rest during your cycle. You are restricted to quarters, his orders - though his tone when he says it makes it feel more like he's placing you somewhere safe than issuing a command. For the next five to seven days, he devotes himself entirely to your comfort, moving with that silent, watchful intensity unique to him. Rook doesn’t simply care for you - he patrols your wellbeing like it’s a perimeter that must not be breached. And gods help anyone who tries to disturb you during that time.

Walter was very much aware of your menstrual cycle before it began, much like Roo, he too was following the fluctuations in your hormones and signs your body was giving before it arrived (sore/tender breasts, a sharp mood change, change in sex drive, etc...)

Once it hits, he handles it with grace, keeping you laying down and in strict recovery mode if their especially bad - and if not? Yeah, you bet he's got his eyes on you.

He makes sure that you're constantly hydrated, always have heating pads on hand and rotated/reheated.

And if you ever get especially emotional (snappy, crying, angry...) he doesn't take offense to any of it. He understands that your hormones are all out of synch, its psychological torture for your brain - something you've been dealing with for a large portion of your life up until you met him (and something you'll continue to experience until you reach menopause.)

He'll even offer complimentary massages on your abdomen - with your explicit and enthusiastic consent of course - as you watch your favorite shows to help you relax.

Honestly? Ditto, he's the same as the others previously mentioned; having sensed it long before it arrives. However, he's far more subtle in his approach of this. He'll have your favorite snacks prepped in advance, a blanket already waiting on the couch, the heating adjusted to whatever temperature you find comforting.

He won't mention why he's doing it unless you bring it up. Instead, he'll hover just close enough to be helpful without crowding you -quiet, observant, always ready with a gentle; "Let me know if you need anything."

If you look tired, he'll dim the lights. If you wince, he'll wordlessly offer a pain reliever and a glass of water. And when you finally settle beside him, he'll sit with that perfectly patient stillness he's known for, a steady presence at your side until the worst of it passes.

Supportive without fussing, intuitive without assuming Samuels is the type to make the entire day feel easier without ever calling attention to the fact that he’s doing it.

Much like those before him, he too is aware of your menstrual cycle; however, unlike those before him. He'd been unable to see you, far too busy and pulled away from both personal projects and your person to deal with yet another one of Kavalier's tantrums.

By the time he gets back to you, he sees you hunched over the table of the science lab, and he acts with quick delicate movements. Straightening you upright with gentle hands and soft words of reassurance even as you try to fight him with broken sobs.

He's angry beyond belief - not at you, no, never at you - but at how today has gone. He feels as though he's failed you as both a partner and as a friend. Seeing you crying and in pain as him heartbroken.

Once he gets you into bed, he's set up a quick IV drip of painkillers and fluid for your system and sits with you as you ride out the waves of pain. Your hand clasped in his own as he rubs circles over your knuckles.

Once your pain subsides, dulling as he watched you relax, he'll hand you your item of comfort (a stuffed animal perhaps) and grab anything else he knows you like and setting it up. Once done, he'll join you in bed and ask you which show you'd like to watch first.

The next 5-7 days are all about you and you alone. The rest of the cosmos can die so long as you're smiling.

Okay so, right off the bat David IS aware you're just a human, he's got the itinerary and logs USCSS Prometheus at his full and complete disposal.

However, your mannerisms are what truly surprise him, he's seen humans; they're loud, messy, emotional, and vastly unpredictable.

You on the other hand? You're unpredictable in the sense that he has no clue what you'll say to knock him off his funk.

Literally.

"You don’t behave like the others,” David says, tone clinical. "Yeah, I had the empathy upgrade removed.” David blinks. "Removed?" "Too many bugs." David studies you a little too long, his expression unreadable. "How… liberating."

And honestly? He quite likes you more than the others.

For once he's found something worthy of keeping and maintaining, now whether that be for entertainment or experimentation is something that has yet to be seen.

Aboard the USCSS Covenant, Walter often heard talks about you potentially being a synthetic which was cause for much discussion amongst the crew. Of course, this only puzzled poor Walter further because each time someone asked him if you were a synth he'd only stare blankly before simply replying; "no."

Of course he knew you were a human, why wouldn't he? It's his job to know the details of all of the colonists and you're no exception.

Anyways, he still doesn't understand why even after trying to explain it to the others that you are a human that they refuse to listen.

This has led to many funny moments between you two and the others, it's left him even more confused.

He just doesn't quite understand the humor behind your actions.

One of the crew joked: "Walter, you sure she’s not one of you?" Walter: "Positive. She eats, she sleeps, she occasionally sighs." You: “Occasionally?" Walter: "Yes. Usually after interacting with the rest of you." The room goes silent. You, choked back a laugh and Walter tilted his head, genuinely confused: "Was that… humorous?"

Christopher had read the itinerary and logs of the ship so he was aware that you were a human to begin with. But Ho-boy was he absolutely NOT ready for how off-putting you were when he first met you.

You should consider yourself accomplished because you literally made him do a doubletake, you were so confusing with your deadpan stares, monotone/flat way of speaking that he actually quintuple checked all the information given to him aboard the USCSS Torrens.

He legit thought you were a synthetic and he was so very deeply confused the first time.

"Oh," he said, withdrawing slowly. "So, this is what uncanny valley feels like."

Poor boy. Don't worry though, since discovering that you're just naturally stoic he's started to try some of his really shitty jokes on you just to get you to try and crack a smile.

Chris: "You think the power loader ever gets tired of carrying everyone’s problems?" You: "That’s not even a joke." Chris: "Yeah, but it lifted your mood." You: "I regret everything."

He actually firmly believes that you are a synthetic and does not question it for the absolute longest time ever until Kavalier opens his fat mouth and mentions you looking like you hadn't eaten all day.

Suddenly Kirsh is re-evaluating all the times since he first met you - just how the hell did he not see the signs sooner?

Perhaps he was just so busy with Kavalier's shenanigans, the children's incessant curiosity and Morrow's plans to not had truly paid attention to you too closely.

Whatever the case may be, just know that during the time before (and after) believing that you were a synthetic, he absolutely reveled in your presence (and still does!).

You're a breath of fresh air in this stale island of many faces, finally someone who he can enjoy his time with.

You two are a menace of deadpan jokes and empty staring - you never let anyone know your next move.

Kirsh once caught you sitting silently in a sunbeam. He quietly whispered, "Ah. Solar-powered."

Speaking on the above bullet note, when you three (Kavalier, Kirsh and yourself) had met with Ms.Yutani to discuss the return of her alien specimens; the two of you had a lot of fun at Morrow's expense pretending to be a synthetic on that elevator.

Elevator hums softly. Kirsh, tilts his head: "You’re unusually quiet. System malfunction?" You: "Running diagnostics." Kirsh: “And?” You: "Results inconclusive." Kirsh: "Typical." Morrow, sighs: "You two are unbearable." You: "Complaint registered." Kirsh: "Priority level: irrelevant." You both stare straight ahead again.

「 ✦ Ash ✦ 」 & 「 ✦ Rook ✦ 」

Ash thinks it's absolutely hilarious that the rest of the crew thinks of you as a synth, he's chuckled numerous times at your expense.

Ash actually thanks his stars that it's you under suspicion and not him - unlike the other's he's always on top of the logs, so he's very keenly aware that you're a human.

Whether or not if you can call the following a blessing or a curse is entirely up to you, but due to your stoicism Ash has grown quite attached to you.

You're... odd! A puzzle for him to figure out and Ash'll be damned if he lets you out of his sight for even a moment.

"Don't worry my dear..." You hear him whisper in your ear, "Your secret's safe with me." He says with a lopsided grin that makes you want to either smack him or kiss him, oddly enough.

Rook on the other hand at first was just as confused as the rest of the scientific staff was - however, it doesn't take him long to figure out that you're a human.

Your stoicism has earned you a friend - or at the very least, Rook's version of one.

You've earned his respect, odd human, and that is a HUGE compliment from Rook.

"You don't bother me with the insignificance of emotion and morality, I admire your purity, _."

At first, he's absolutely baffled as to why the Sulaco crew would think of you as a Synthetic, he's met so many humans, and yet there he stands absolutely corrected.

Meeting you for the first time actually confuses his neural synapses'

You don't emote much, be that physically or with body language or even with your hands, which causes him great confusion as a lot of humans are known to do one or all of the expressed variables.

But you? Oh, you're an enigma.

It's a 50/50 coinflip on whether or not if he can pick up what you're feeling at the moment - he mostly relies on the subtle cues of your pheromones or tone of voice.

Even though tone of voice has often failed him as well. Comically so! Once he thought you'd been offended by something he'd done and approached you with a gift (of your choosing) and apologize only to be met with a blank look from your end.

The day he asks if you truly are a synthetic and what model is by far THE funniest interaction you've ever had in your life;

“You intrigue me, __, I must ask—what is your synthetic model?

"Excuse me?" You ask, cocking a brow in confusion. Had you heard him correctly? or did he just ask you if you were a synth?

"Are you not a synthetic?" He asks in equal confusion.

There's a long beat of silence as you both stand there and stare at one another, you could hear a needle drop at the awkward silence.

"...Bishop, what the hell gave you that Idea???"

How it starts…

Rook, long before he joined the USCSS Renaissance, was repurposed as a synthetic combat model. He too (quite much like another beloved synthetic) served under the colonial marines as a First Sargeant.

If there's anything in this cold and unforgiving world that Rook loves more than anything, it is having control, following protocol, as well as enforcing standards and ensuring the well-being of his unit.

During his time served, Rook experienced loss and death firsthand, he'd lost many of good men and women in the line of duty. Many of which whom he was never close to and only vaguely knew about but in such times of yore; he was built to integrate well amongst humans despite his gruff and stoic nature. It's what many of the marine's liked about him, he was a no-nonsense type of guy.

During such loses Rook wasn't given the curtesy of mourning, though every death would be acknowledged for less than fraction of a second, their names lay not forgotten.

As a 1stSgt, Rook had managed to meet two human men who would serve to begin instilling the seeds of softness and humanity within him. Of these where an American blonde man named Kieran and a scarred much larger Scottish man named Mitchell. Between them they helped to show him that perhaps protocol and control wasn't all there was to life.

That was however, until he lost Kieran on his 28th birthday, killed in a freak accident. That was the first time anyone in his company had seen the man breakdown.

And it would be his last, if he had any say in the matter. That is until he met you.

From the very moment he lay eyes on you, his fate was sealed. You were the most captivating human he'd ever seen in such a long time that he had to run a quick diagnostic on himself to insure he wasn't in the midst of being shut down.

Being who he is, Rook kept his distance from you, deciding not to get attached. Although the USCSS Renaissance was no warzone but a space faring vessel, he knew what attachment meant. It meant loss and pain and he sure as hell wasn't going to allow himself that mistake again. His hands idly touch Kieran's dogtags in memory.

However, even despite his coldness, there's something in you that refuses to turn away- a quiet understanding that his distance isn't cruelty, but fear disguised as indifference. You extend warmth where he's built walls, kindness where he's drawn lines, as though some part of you believes he's still worth saving from himself.

With that in mind, you begin to pay him regular visits, paying no mind to the eyerolls you reconceive. Your warm smile brightens the room and stills the brewing storm that surrounds him. He begins to actually look forward to your visits, though he'd never tell you that.

Your laugh makes his cheeks flush, the color of your eyes reminds him of the rising sun, a promise of a new day. You begin to mean safety, the calm within the maelstrom.

One day, when you touch his arm, trying to help steady him after he nearly falls due to a piece of scientific tube managing to get caught under the sole of his foot, Rook's entire face flushes a deep scarlet red. You're both dumbfounded and Rook stares at you with a blank unreadable expression - despite the echo chamber of screams rattling the inside of his internal processor.

From that day forward, he's sold on your person.

He pays you infrequent visits, occasionally bringing something from the mess hall he's seen you enjoy along with some protein synthesized orange juice. He insists 'its nothing really' but you know otherwise.

It's a quiet evening, you're both together in his quarters of all places. You look around at the sad sight that greets your eyes, it's a small room, almost cramped but somehow manages to fit two people just barely. He has the bare essentials of what it means to survive (not like he'd realistically need any of it anyways given his mechanical nature).

You set the plant and grow light you'd bought for him that one time the Renaissance was planet bound. Despite the small gesture, you can't help the strange sad feeling inside of you as his room feels just a bit more homely.

He eyes you, quiet. Analytical eyes always taking in information regarding your person, as he grew to know more of you, he discovered the paradoxical nature of your upbringing. Life had given you hell, kicked and beaten you down on multiple occasions, yet in spite of it all, you still chose to love. You still chose gentleness.

He approaches you from behind, anxious hands settling on your hips, you feel him drum along your hipbone and you cant help the chuckle that escapes your lips.

"Something's on your mind, I can tell." You speak up, voice soft as you look down at his hands and wrap your own around yourself to hold onto his larger ones. "Perhaps." he replies simply, his deep gravelly English voice near your ear.

There's a pause between the two of you, a beat of comfortable silence as you stare down at the plant before he finally continues.

"_?" He calls to you, you swear he almost sounds like he's drowning as you fee his lips on the back of your neck. "Hm?" "I believe I'm in love with you..." You can't help the little laugh and smile that forms, you're grinning, beaming even. He huffs behind you and almost seems to pull away, however, you're quick to stop him halfway. Turning around to meet his gaze, ocean blue eyes - fierce and strong like ice - boring into your soul. "Did I say stop?"

And that was all he needed to hear from you. The distance between you vanished in an instant, his breath mingling with yours before his mouth claimed you in a rush that felt both desperate and inevitable. His body pressed you back against the wall, the world narrowing to the heat of him, the quiet thunder of his pulse beneath your palms. Every kiss felt like a confession, every touch like a prayer whispered into the dark - wordless, reverent, and starved for something neither of you dared to name.

Sex with Rook is less about conquering, less about fucking like two animals in heat but more about worship, connection, bonding. Had you not known he was machine, you could've sworn your souls were intertwining in this very act.
