We’ve been living across the street from this cemetery for years (you can actually see our place behind Parker an Al Jolson) but never went over to explore. It’s really cool! And Parker got to get out some pent-up energy. #jackbenny #aljolson #leonardnemoy (at Hillside Memorial Park and Mortuary) https://www.instagram.com/p/B-PvMRlJ-rQ/?igshid=1pjc95zvvwvuo

. . Nicholas Dante (November 22, 1941 - May 21, 1991) was a dancer and writer who died of AIDS in New York City. He was 49 years old. . Born Conrado Morales in New York, he intended to study journalism but dropped out of high school, age 14, due to the homophobia he faced on a daily basis. . “I grew up in the 1940’s, a Puerto Rican kid on 125th and Broadway, and obviously gay. Nobody would hang out with me . . . I was terrified to go out where anybody could see me.” . Dante managed to support himself by working as a drag queen and began studying dance. His early career was also spent dancing in the choruses of musicals, nightclubs and television shows. . Dante wrote “A Chorus Line” along with playwright James Kirkwood Jr (1924 – 1989) — a musical directed and choreographed by #MichaelBennett (1943 – 1987) — based on interviews with dancers discussing their real-life experiences. Bennett also died of AIDS. . “It’s the first thing I ever wrote. What you saw onstage is 90 percent true. It`s our life stories. I’m 33, and I’ve been dancing all my life. Now I hope I can be a writer.” . The collaboration earned Dante and Kirwood @thetonyawards and Drama Desk Award for Best Book of a Musical and the @pulitzerprizes for Drama in 1976. . Dante went on to write an unproduced screenplay, and a stage musical based on the life of #AlJolson (1886 –1950) that toured the States in the early 1980s. . #whatisrememberedlives #theaidsmemorial #aidsmemorial #endaids #neverforget .
