After a month in the hospital, Kevin was ready to be discharged and Carter had borrowed his aunt’s car to go get him. The man couldn’t explain how grateful he was to be taking the man back to his home because with each moment, he was hoping they could get some sort of sense of normalcy again. After the explosions, everything seemed to be going wrong and with so many people gone, both figuratively and literally, it was nice when they got a few back. Catastrophes bred unrest, but the more things settled down, the easier it was to recover. Filling out whatever paperwork was necessary, he took a prescription that was written up for pain killers in case there was some residual aching. With the little paper bag in hand, he went to Kevin’s room, knocking before opening. “Ready to go?” It should have been more alarming that despite gong through two shootings and making it out of both alive, he was already being discharged but maybe that was what they called miracles. Carter couldn’t say he believed in them, but hell here was a man who survived death twice. So maybe they did exist.
