Wrong Time, Wrong Place || Allison & William

William stumbled out the door, his feet fumbling beneath him in an act of intoxication. The dull stench of stagnant cigarettes clung to the air lingering outside the bar; the crooked and crinkled butts of those already burned out sat on the ground providing evidence for the offensive smell slowly fading into the night. His expression remained impassive as he studied the burning embers of a single stick with an unfocused gaze. He let only a few seconds pass before he turned his attention to the emptying street before him.
Starting off in a seemingly random direction, William kept his ears focused for the sound of the heavy door of the bar. A whispered curse was muttered beneath his breath at the echoing noise of the pub door being opened briefly, enough for two men to take their exit. A spared glance shot over his shoulder confirmed the sight of the two men that had been following him for the majority of the night. William dropped any precautions previous held as he broke out into a run. He could hear the angry shouts erupt behind him as he willed his feet to move faster. The weight of the gun was heavy in the pocket of his coat, but William loathed to use such barbaric means, especially if he could easily loose them with a simple chase.
Shadows danced along the street as William’s gaze snapped from various side roads weaving through the city to the promised safety of an alley. Before his feet could carry him around the corner and into the darkened shadow of an alley, William felt the crashing impact of another body colliding with his muscular frame. “Shit!” The profanity fell from his lips as an angry glare overtook his features. He didn’t have time to worry over the wellbeing of a poor bystander, yet William knew the face of this woman would haunt his conscience if he saw her name printed in the morning news. Grip tight upon the soft flesh of her bicep, William dragged her into the sheltering shadows and clapped a hand over her mouth in an effort to keep any noise from escaping the poor woman. Leaning close to push both of them against the wall, William used his weight to keep her immobile in his grip. His voice was barely audible against her ear as he spoke with softened words: “Don’t move. I know you’re probably terrified but if you want to keep that head on your shoulders then you’re going to have to shut up and keep still.”
