The post arrived just in time for #TechnologyThursday and it brought with it a very special parcel! . Remember last week when I talked about using my kindle to read certain papers and theses, so prevent printing out hundreds of pages and reading from a computer screen all day? Well, I still maintain that some things are great on a kindle, but unfortunately the majority of journal article pdfs aren’t formatted for kindle screens, so the writing is usually too small. “If only,” I thought. “There were a which combined the eye-friendly e-ink canvas display of a kindle with the size and pdf-readability of a tablet or larger screen.” And that’s when I saw the ‘remarkable’, which has all these things plus the ability to write in what they claim is “the closest to writing on real paper”. I still love my paper notebooks so I’m not sure I’ll be and to give them up entirely, but it’s a remarkable (haw haw haw...) feature nonetheless. . Alas it was a bit pricey for an impulse buy, but I considered it for a long time and I was recently lucky enough to get paid for some volunteer work I did. It was fate! They also a very nice satisfaction guarantee, so I’ll be testing it out thoroughly over the next week or so. . The concept of technology is an interesting one. So many people lament the loss of traditional technology, and say that the increased use of electronic devices is going against humanity. In some ways I agree, and indeed there is still a difference between a kindle and a real book (or a remarkable and a real notebook), but I would argue that technological development is one of the defining aspects of humanity. Just look at the definitions of prehistory: “Stone Age”, Bronze Age”, “Iron Age”. Our development as a society was literally defined by the technology we use. . Of course this is just my opinion. What do you think? . #technology #remarkable #gadgets #allthegadgets #notebook #reading #phd #phdlife #development #literaturereview #phdprep #academiclife https://www.instagram.com/p/CD1PQHrHhK_/?igshid=ni273ypcb8f5
