Prompt: Fluff Week 2017 - Day 5 - Sweets / Midnight Snacks
Pairing: Allunk, Hallura (? what is this pair name)
Note: Both prompts sort of work for this one! Enjoy
”Wait a minute, Allura, they need to cool.”
“But I want one now…” pouted the little girl, her blue eyes tearing up as she stared at the steaming tray of one of her favorite snacks. The little circles smelled sweet and tart all at once and it made Allura smile and she reached a hand forward to take one off the tray only to hear a soft squeak-
Allura’s eyes opened and she looked at the mouse she had picked up in her sleep. The little thing tilted its head and Allura sighed, putting it back down, her heart heavy at the fond memory she had dreamed of. That was, until that distinct smell wafted into her room. Her eyes looked to the door, the scent of her old favorite snack permeating through the door and wrapping itself around her.
Was Coran baking?
She got up, grabbing her robe, and then headed out and towards the kitchen. She blinked when she saw now Coran, but Hunk. Hunk… mixing a bowl of something that looked like the mixture used to make the tart cookies.
“Hunk?”
Hunk fumbled with the bowl. “Princess! What are you doing up this late?”
Allura smiled, walking over to examine the the oven that was making such a wonderful smell. “I smelled something delicious and came to investigate. I’m not complaining, but why are you up in the middle of the night baking?”
Hunk placed the bowl down and rubbed the back of his head. “Yeah, well, you see - I stress bake. And with the upcoming battle with Prince Lotor, the lack of finding Shiro…”
Allura frowned now, watching as Hunk pulled a tray out of the oven. She looked at the tray and oh… they were exactly as she remembered them. The soft sweet smell, mixed with that tart smell. She smiled sadly, memories of Alfor making these often for her pooled into her mind. While Hunk sighed, spooning out more dollops on another tray.
“I had no idea you guys had stuff to make cookies with, I mean, I tried stuff before - but this stuff obvious works better. I think my Altean studies with Pidge are paying off.”
Allura’s eyes danced. “They are. You made the caocinsin just the way I remember it.”
Hunk placed the other tray in the oven, eying Allura, who seemed to look a little sad now. Well, not really sad, but a soft melancholic air seemed to move around her as she stood there, thinking of her father, probably. Hunk pulled off his oven mit and grabbed at a tray from earlier, the cookie was still warm, but hard enough to pick up without falling apart.
He held it out to her.
“Here, I’ve already taste-tested one… or two...three… anyways! I know they are good.”
Allura looked at his face and then down at the cookie.
Instead of just taking it from him, she leaned forward and took a bite out of it.
Hunk’s whole face turned red as she did so, she chewed on it slowly. Her eyes fell closed and she hummed with delight - a drawn out hum that made Hunk’s blush burn even more.
Her eyes reopened. “This is wonderful, you did really well.”
Hunk cleared his throat, eyes snapping off to the side. “Uh, thanks! Glad you liked them. You can have more, if you want.”
Allura smiled. “Thank you.”
He watched her take a seat now, a small plate of cookies in front of her. She chewed them slowly, savoring them, but Hunk couldn’t help but feel a little responsible for that pensive look on her face. He pulled the last tray out, taking off his oven mitts and grabbing a plate of his own, taking a seat next to her.
“So, Alfor liked to bake?”
“Yes, he did. He made the most wonderful baked goods.”
“What else did he make, other than these… uh... caocinsin?”
Allura smiled and began telling Hunk of all the other Altean baked goods, Hunk took notes on each thing, jotting down to memory to look for the ingredients in the cupboards with his limited knowledge of the Altean language, but more importantly - he was happy to see Allura so happy to just talk about her past, about her father.
She needed that once and awhile, and Hunk was happy to give it to her, especially over a plate of cookies.
