4 - oh gOD I'M SO SCARED L ORD
It was a flash storm --The rain had started suddenly, and was sure to end as fast. But for the moment, Juliet and Jackson were both getting soaked on the streets of the quarter, they should have cared.Sunrise was coming; any other day they would have partedways and ran for cover - Juliet to her apartment and Jacksonfor the bayou. But not today; today, they stayed still and clunghands as the first light started to peek over the tops of thebuildings of the quarter. It was a longshot and they both knewit. Jackson wouldn't hurt her in wolf form; he had too much control for that, but still, it was risky for a wolf to stay in the quarter past daylight. But if he wasn't a wolf -- if he was a man again....Juliet squeezed his hand, shivering in the cold of the rain.He shrugged out of his jacket without looking away from the light that was slowly spreading across the quarter. He draped it over her shoulders, finally turning to lookdown at her as the light touched his toes. She'd spent allnight trying to break the curse; it was now or never. If it didn't work, he wanted the last thing he saw that night -morning? - to be her face. They'd be separated for another twelve hours. Another eternity.
But then the sunlight touched his feet.He shuddered at the feeling, the rain still pouring down on his scalp. His human scalp. The sunlight traced up his bodyand hers, but still he stood on two legs. It had worked. It had worked, and he let out a whoop as the light nearlyblinded him when he broke his gaze from the blondenext to him. "It worked!" He crowed loudly, rain running down his face, mingling with the tears of relief that she pretended not to see. She knew she had the same on her own cheeks - she knew their pride was too fragileto acknowledge it, and for a moment, Juliet was gratefulfor the rain.
Jackson scooped her up so fast and high that it stole thebreath from her lungs, her hair slapping wetly against the back of her neck as he spun her around and around in thebreaking dawn of the quarter streets. She squealed amoment later, laughing with joy and love as her arms tightened around his neck. It had worked. She had done it."You saved me," he was whispering into her hair, whisperinginto the rain. And then her lips were on his, her hands sliding on the smooth wetness of his cheeks."Don't leave me at sunrise again," she murmured back against his lips. He kissed her again in answer.
