Shower thoughts:

In FMA:B (and maybe FMA'03), when we meet an armored Barry the Chopper, do we think Lab 5 came up with the idea of putting a soul in a suit of armor all by themselves?

Or, perhaps, they took the idea from what Ed did to Al.

We learned at the end of the series that Bradly and the Dwarf both knew that Ed had committed human transmutation from the very beginning due to his clap alchemy and simply pretended ignorance because it was useful for their long term plans. It's not a stretch to think they knew what Al was as well. That maybe others high up in the military, those in on the country-wide-array, might be aware as well.

What if some General or other went to Lab 5 and said "this is what a 10 year old was able to accomplish. Figure out how he did it and replicate it."

That sort of research should have produced more people who have performed human transmutation, more people Father could use for the array rather than forcing Roy's hand. That it didn't is... weird, honestly. How the series determined what was and was not human transmutation never seemed consistent. Or I'm missing something.

I dunno, I just kinda love the idea that Ed's act of love to save his brother could have been the inspiration for such fucked up research.

FMA; Thoughts on Al’s Body

Why didn’t Edward or Alphonse ever think to just try to like... Make a body for Alphonse? They were extremely well-versed in how the human body functions, knew all the components for creating a human body, and-- if they were unable to piece together the rest by themselves-- had access to two people who made prosthetics for a living and who knew the ins and outs of nerves and muscles. Like, neither of them really expected the Gate to have kept their body parts (see: That scene in Gluttony’s stomach where Ed transports himself to the Gate and is surprised and elated at seeing Alphonse’s emaciated body by the Gate), so they were probably thinking they would have to recreate their body parts...

The part of the Human Transmutation that the Gate punished them for was trying to bring the soul/essence/consciousness of their mother into a body. The making of a body in and of itself isn’t the part that science struggles with-- it’s making a body that can think and care and be human and alive. So like. Why didn’t they ever even attempt to make Al a body? Obviously they were traumatized but by the time Edward was in the military the two of them had a pretty good handle on themselves, so like...? I dunno, it’s just something that’s been bothering me. 

There are a bunch of things like that that pop up in the show and manga that make me pause: the protagonists are two geniuses who are in contact with their genius friend and who make smart/powerful/talented allies and friends so it always confuses me. Like with Al not being able to feel; I doubt they could have given the armor a full sensory experience, but I’m pretty sure with Alchemy and Winry’s automail technology they could have set something up that at least let him feel pressure, which probably would have given Al a little less of an existentialism crisis. And Al’s armor CAN be altered, as long as the seal remains connected to it and whole the rest of the armor is A-Okay, so why don’t they ever try to make Al look more reasonably sized/humanoid? Even if the mass and weight remains the same, the height made people afraid of Al and Alphonse seems like the type of person to only want his enemies to fear him so that also could have made Al’s existence a bit more comfortable.

Any thoughts on this? More inconsistencies or reasons why these things weren’t plausible? Always up for a friendly debate~

You know... I was wondering.. what if, Ed transmuted Al's armor body to a super badass fighting form? Like with arm blades and a cool fox helm?
