so I thought I had beaten Alter Echo as a kid, but I'm pretty sure I actually just gave up on what I thought was the final boss fight - and what is, in fact, not even CLOSE to the final boss fight, because the final boss fight is a series of like 6 fights in a row where the game suddenly goes from "holds your hand the entire game telling you when your weapons aren't effective and what form you should switch to to defeat a particular enemy" to "giant facehugger thing with only 1 weakness that you have to figure out entirely on your own (which is "use two different forms to combo on a certain kind of enemy and throw that enemy at a certain part of the boss during a certain time frame". BTW), then a bunch of other gimmicky bullshit like having to rapidly switch forms to block 3 different types of attacks, shuffled at random. it then culminates in a fucking RHYTHM GAME where the main bad guy launches some energy ball at you and the two of you literally just volleyball it back and forth faster and faster until you win.

and then you're rewarded with what has to be the most ridiculous Bad Guy Killing Scene i've ever seen in my life. seriously im begging you to please watch this scene it just keeps going and going and going HE'S ALREADY DEAD (TW FOR FLASHING LIGHTS)

overall still a really solid game. 7/10 I'd say. Without save states though I definitely would've been chucking it out the window lmao
