Between relocating to Wisconsin, starting grad school and the onset of the pandemic, 2019-2020 has not been my most productive year in the studio. So it felt extra good to finish this baby off last night! 💖💙👁💙💖 All the fabric is hand dyed; the back is screen printed with dye. The stripes are made with 1/8” piping sewn in between the pieced panels. The eye motif in the center is hand appliquéd. The top is machine pieced and 100% of the quilting stitches were done by hand. The tassels are also handmade. 💖💙 👁 💙💖 When I told my faculty this was a baby quilt, I, well... got a lot of pushback. But in my mind, this is the quilt I want to give to every new baby that comes into my life. An all seeing eye for guidance and protection, plus the eyes of your community and the world surrounding you on the backing. It represents care and hope and blessing and love. Plus a little flamboyance with the tassels just for fun. I know it isn’t super functional but, like, that’s not the point of art?? Anyway. Welcome to the world, quilt. I’ve got my eye on you. 💖💙👁💙💖 #quilt #quilting #handquilting #dye #dyersofinstagram #quiltersofinstagram #sewing #alternativequilting #piping #allseeingeye #art #fiberart #textiles #textileart #artquilt #ivegotmyeyeonyou (at Madison, Wisconsin) https://www.instagram.com/p/CFX6JguBoi1/?igshid=7vucfgdtnzdw
