wait i was just listening to “this band is back” on the official soundtrack and at the very end (around 1:32) there’s a quiet exchange of “you can scat” “i canNOT scat” lmfao why is this my first time hearing this

i think a lot about the fact that julie’s mother must have passed away due to some sort of illness and not an accident, considering she clearly wrote wake up for julie to help her learn to live with her grief after she’s gone.

and ALSO how the song goes from julie singing for her mom to singing for herself. it’s a duet but only julie gets to sing it. just, “though i wish i could hold you through it / i know it’s not the same / you got living to do / and i just want you to do it” versus “and i use the pain / ‘cause it’s part of me / and i’m ready to power through it” really gets me every time this show really pulled no punches straight from episode 1 huh!!!
