As Kara Braden, I’ve written two contemporary het romances THE LONGEST NIGHT and THE DEEPEST NIGHT, available at amazon.com, barnesandnoble.com, iBooks, and all major retailers, in both ebook and paperback format, and as audiobooks through audible.com. THE LONGEST NIGHT is actually based on my Johnlock epic, NORTHWEST PASSAGE, which is still available on AO3.
(Secret admission time: Ray, the hero of THE DEEPEST NIGHT, is heavily based on the way I write Alec Trevelyan, and there’s absolutely room for an OT3 at the end of the book, though I won’t reveal who for fear of spoilers.)
What I’m really excited about is that at the end of last year, I signed a two-book contract with @riptidepublishing under the pen name Jordan S. Brock. @jordansbrock is my tumblr for queer writing, random fandoms, and service dog training. We don’t have titles yet, but the series is set on Hartsbridge Island, a fictional island just off the coast of New Hampshire, which shows my deep love of snow (living in Arizona means it’s a hundred million degrees outside for ten months out of the year and I haven’t seen snow in forever *cries*).
The series might be called Hartsbridge Island, Pets & Vets, or Oh Dear Gods I Hate Coming Up With Titles. Not sure which.
Book 1 is about a USAF veteran, Michael Baldwin, suffering from TBI, aphasia, balance problems, and PTSD who’s released from the hospital after two years of surgery and therapy and comes back to the family vacation home on Hartsbridge Island with his service dog, Kayee* the German Shepherd Dog. There, he meets townie Josh Goldberg, a high school dropout who helps his dad run the local bagel shop/deli. Together, they find love and the strength to take charge of their lives and their future, and I promise a happily ever after ending!
Book 1 is tentatively titled The One With The Dog And The Two Adorable Idiots OMG KISS ALREADY or possibly Please Don’t Make Me Think of More Titles.
If you’re anywhere near Las Vegas or enjoy books and have the money for it, I highly, highly recommend coming to this year’s RT Booklovers Convention. It’s going to be a blast, with hundreds of authors, everything from YA to all types of romance, including queer, sci-fi/fantasy, contemporary, and historical. There are workshops for writers, publisher spotlights, and reader events like book signings, meet-the-author, giveaways and swag, and parties. I’ll be there with my service dog, Darian!
And in March of 2017, @riptidepublishing is hosting WaveCon, a convention for LGBTQIA+ readers, authors, and bloggers, on a cruise. How cool is that? It’s a five-day Royal Caribbean cruise out of Fort Lauderdale to Mexico and back, and again it’s got workshops, reader events, even more swag, and lots of fun parties. I’m really, really hoping to be there, too, if we can afford the plane tickets from AZ and everything.
