“Bigger turnout than I expected,” he says in lieu of a greeting as he slides up next to Amanda. “From both sides of the aisle, too. That’s refreshing.” What that translates into, besides the overarching vague notions of partisanship in the face of patriotism and etcetera, is a good photo-op to show off when Oliver gets thrown around as a divisive figure in a few weeks from now when he’s vying for a VP confirmation. It also means Oliver gets to gloat a bit in front of Michael Connelly and all of his friends who put the ‘white’ in ‘red, white, and blue’, all of which are no doubt are seething to see a staunch progressive in the vice presidency.
He turns away from the crowd and looks instead straight to Amanda, offering her an amused smile. “What’s the vibe for today? Are we keeping it Christian classy or can I start day drinking?” he asks with a grin. “I know you were sure we left jello shots in college, but I wouldn’t mind bringing back some memories.”
