amazingpetra + danisnotonfire

Petra positioned herself so she was sitting directly before the sole mirror in her bedroom and began to preen herself. She wasn't usually this pedantic about whether or not each eyelash was free of mascara clumps, but today was different. She wasn't just going out with a couple of friends to hang out or, on the rare occasion, to meet John and Edward; no. Today, Petra was going on a date.

     The doorbell rung, two sharp buzzes that startled Petra out of her Dan related daydream. She gently smoothed down the last few strands of flyaway hair before giving herself a glance over in her reflection. She had opted for a casual, primarily white, outfit that she hoped flaunted all of her curves. 

"Petra?" She heard a voice call down the hallway. She had to stifle a sigh. The mere sound of his voice was gorgeous; the way in which he enunciated each word perfectly...

"One second," She called back, reminding herself not to lapse into her native language as she often did when she was nervous. [AN: idk u probably dont do that but idgaf]

They spent the meal together at a small restaurant Dan had picked out just outside of town, in rapt chatter. Petra found herself gravitating towards Dan as the meal went on; as if his presence was magnetic. She couldn't help but feel drawn to him, this sarcastic English boy with his eccentric fashion sense and flirtatious smiles. 

"I'm going home tomorrow." Dan reminded Petra as he turned to face her. They stood outside her house, their mouths inches apart. They didn't have to speak above a whisper. The moment was too intimate to be soiled by speaking loudly, anyhow. 

"I know." She responded simply. She had known this whole week that Dan was only here on vacation and would soon be returning to England. He'd pick up his life where he left off and she would remain nothing but a memory in his mind. 

"I don't want to leave." He said, all jokes aside for once in his life. 

"I don't want you to leave either." Petra barely managed to say. A lump had formed in her throat. Don't cry, don't cry, don't cry, she told herself sternly. You barely even know him. Dan slowly brought a hand up to cup her face. She looked up at him and for once the height difference didn't feel like a negative. It felt natural. Their lips moved closer and, without thinking, Petra let her eyes drift closed. She wanted to remember this moment forever. His lips were soft on hers as he gently prised her lips open to embrace her tongue before drawing back. It was a whisper of a kiss, a promise of more to come. But with his flight back home approaching, it left Petra wondering if there would ever be anything more to this. Could what she had with Dan ever progress into anything more? Or would it be just another summer fling.
