AMDA Audition
So yesterday I had my AMDA audition and it was kind of strange.
In most other things I've seen about AMDA audition is that they are really big, there's lots of people, there's like cardboard cut out to take pictures with and that was not the case.
My audition was in Cleveland, OH and about maybe 15 or less auditionees, including me, showed up. We were supposed to get there and have like a small breakfast and then do a workshop. Then were were going to have lunch, learn more about AMDA and then do our auditions.
For the most part it was fun but the workshop was kind of weird. I was expecting us like all get to get and do vocal warm ups or stretching or something. Instead the person doing the auditions had 2 people sing their songs and we all critiqued them together. And I mean sure that would totally help if I had time to critique my own song even alone but we had lunch next so I couldn't.
All the people there were really nice especially all the auditionees. We all shared stories about plays and like marching band. It was kind of weird that we didn't do anything like exercises during the workshop cuz the dancers were stretching like a minute before their auditions. Luckily I got a chance to practice with the pianist for a few minutes.
My actual audition wasn't great. I didn't here the first note on the piano so the beginning off my song was off key but o think the end was better. The auditions then asked my to sing Happy Birthday and I did. He did seem to like my monologue though so at least I got that.
After the audition I had an interview with one of the alumni and he basically asked me all the questions that were on the application.
Overall it was fun. I was a little disappointed in the workshop but it was a great experience. Especially considering I've never really auditioned for anything before.
They said ill find out whether or not I got in in 2 to 4 weeks so maybe ill post and update in late August.
