It was peaceful. Waking up and seeing her.
It was because of her that he had splinched from the top of his shoulder all the way down his right arm, resulting in his pinky severed off, because of seeing her face too clearly. It was because of her that he had fought the wish to sink into the realms of dreamless sleep, because he had needed to call her name. And it was because of her that after he had given in to that sleep, he had kept warm and comfortable, because of her fire.
He could see her now too. Her child’s face, when her hair had been short and her front tooth still missing, leaned over him with impatience in her expression because it was long past eight and she wanted to play and he wouldn’t wake up. But it was just so peaceful, that morning, with the canaries singing outside and the warm waft of Mexican air making it through the grand open windows of their room. It was just another Sunday, the churches down in the city hadn’t begun calling the Muggles towards them, no one was awake yet, the breakfast not even served, it was just another Sunday and Edgar lay in bed, peaceful.
“Just come back to bed for a while, Lili.”
