Located in Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary and protected by the National Estuarine Research Reserve, Elkhorn Slough is one of California's great coastal wetlands.
Its waterways, mudflats, and marsh support a wide diversity of wildlife, hosting more than 340 species of birds, including several endangered species, making the slough one of our nation's premier bird watching sites! All of May is American Wetlands Month, let us know where your favorite wetlands are! (Photo: USGS.
