The composition of the urban landscape is based on an almost radical system in its simplicity. The horizon divides the canvas into two surfaces of the same size, the upper being occupied by a lightly modulated sky. The lower part of the picture is dominated by an imposing block of houses, with the right hand of Boulevard Brune leading into the depth of the image. In addition to the superstructure, the green area in the front of the image plays an important role, an untroubled fallow, which has given the trampled footpaths of passersby a structuring.
