Happy Mother’s Day!! To celebrate, I’m posting a mother fire salamander (Salamandra salamandra) giving birth to its larvae into a small stream in Northern Apennines mountains of Italy. Here’s were my own mother gave me the opportunity to explore nature, opening into my own heart the greatest fire possible: the passion for nature. Thanks to my mother who always understood that, permitting me to keep tadpoles, frogs, worms and a bunch of other stuff in my bedroom for all my childhood. Thanks her for handing me Gerald Durrell’s “my family and other animals”. Thanks to her for not getting crazy about cockroaches and crickets running in the kitchen because they escaped from my enclosures. Thanks to her for not having a heart attack that time I called her for a broken arm while I was looking for green tree frogs.
