Audiofic Archive

In 2006, the Audiofic Archive was created by general_jinjur to host audio recordings of fic, a medium growing in popularity and now known as podfics.

Ten years later, a server failure led to the loss of many stories hosted on the site. Months of downtime caused conflict as volunteer archivists struggled to understand the scope of the loss and what was needed as they tried to recover files. Server space became an issue, and eventually the archive went dormant.

With time, the archive returned, hosted now by squidiepdx and reopening to submissions. Remember Amplificathon? This annual multifandom podfic challenge ran from 2008 to 2016 with the aim of increasing the diversity of available podfics. Over six weeks, podficcers would compete to earn points; podfics for rare or previously-unpodficced fandoms or ships would be weighted more heavily.

While Amplificathon ended in 2016, its impact lives on in other podfic events, and the Dreamwidth community is still active today!
