I’ve just learned that

a) the word for ‘asexual’ in Japanese is 無性 (musei)

b) 無性に is usually pronounced ‘mushou ni’ and means “very much; intensely; overwhelmingly; excessively; irresistibly; without any obvious reason”

so if you wanted to Japanese incorrectly, you could say in writing (they’re different aloud) that     asexually =  very much; intensely; overwhelmingly; excessively; irresistibly; without any obvious reason

and yeah, that seems fair X’)

Another revelation from Love Live... 

One of Kotori’s catchphrases on the stickers is “chun chun,” which is, okay, sure, that’s cute. 

BUT apparently, the onomatopoeia “chun chun” means birds chirping, and what does “Kotori” mean?? Small bird?!

Switched versions of Excel when translating, and the text imported like this. My guess is that the base font is the fancy handwriting-looking one, and for the characters that font doesn’t include, it reverts to the big bold block-like font? 

I can’t tell if this is harder or easier to read... It’s hard to pick out the characters because they’re not uniform, but I feel like it also keeps my interest more, especially since this procedure document is pretty much the same 30 terms used over and over again in different orders.

A short list of my latest color-coding scheme for my manga translation work

I started working in Excel (Google Sheets) after my first volume translation, and I really love it because I can load it up with all shorts of notes about everything under the sun, then go bam and copy and paste to have a clean document to make final passes on to send to my editor.

Downsides/points to remember:

-Gotta label when lines are SFX, asides, and image text (but I'd have to do that anyway)

-Gotta remember to also copy/paste the column with the SFX in Japanese

-Upside: stupidly easy trick to double space everything

-Gotta go back and re-bold all the bold text after pasting without formatting

-TBD: I went and adjusted the directions of apostrophes/quote markers, but it might actually do that on its own...? Gotta double check. Also gotta find/delete straight quotation marks on split lines.

-Gotta find/replace SFX and 小さめ with SFX\t and 小さめ\t as regular expression

-Edits to the eventual word document don't get reflected back to the excel doc unless I make the effort

But on the upside (and possibly downside) I can keep multiple volumes' worth of info and translations in one document, using tabs (data validation is also nice)

So this was one of my words of the day at work back in November because I read it in a BL manga and I thought it'd be funny plus it seemed useful but since I've kept this photo on my to-do list because I wanted to make a folder for all my words-of-the-day, it really sunk in my memory, and now it's just showed up in an audio transcript I'm "editing" (translating). #ftw I doubt I would have been able to figure it out what I was hearing otherwise.
