Seeing if a book I’m reading is accurate. Figured you or Silent700 would know.

Did Bell use digital switches for long distance in 1978?
The No. 4 Electronic Switching System (ESS) would have been in service as early as 1976, slowly replacing the No. 4 Crossbar (XB) systems that made up the AT&T long lines network. The 4ESS was a step forward from the 1ESS and 1A ESS which were sorta like computer controlled XB switches... sorta.
Why do you ask?
analog-punk said: Have you tried ide SSD? That’s what I used in my triple/quad boots. I am interested in what you get 3.51 to work on.
i could probably get an ide ssd and save a lot of trouble and everything would work fine. but i got a cheap sata controler and a cheap sata ssd for half the price lol
i actually do have an 8gb ide ssd disk on module thing in this computer with os/2 on it. i bought that for the lte5400 a long time ago but it didn’t work right, its very particular about what actually works in it.
the computer is just some generic pentium3 motherboard in a shitty case that i picked out all my best (ie most compatible) peripherals to put in. ess1868 pci sound card netgear fa311 ethernet card usrobotics pci modem i might find something cool to do with ati rage pro 128 agp video the aforementioned sil1311 pci sata “raid” controller card
interesting story about the motherboard... it was a pentium 2, when i got it, in an even shittier case, literally on the side of the road. but i had the compatible cpu to upgrade it see my the new old pc tag for wayyyy more stuff about my latest boredom project.
I may have missed this but are you using the baking to calm your anxiety? I ask because it's why I do it. The perfect math calms my mind. I cook to be creative. I bake to relax. Curious if it's the same for you. Thanks.
I am, yeah. Baking and roasting coffee beans has filled the hole in my life that opened up when I took a year off drinking, so I’m not making beer.

Are you going to VCF Midwest this year in Chicago?
I wish. Sadly, I’ve burned through alot of my vacation time during the last two months, so VCFMW11 is off the table for this year. I would love to be able to go though. Next time, hopefully.
Anyone out there going to VCF Midwest 11 this year?

I used to have one. It was an add on with a 25 pin serial. I used it with an old x10 home automation system.
A 25 pin serial, eh? I’ve seen a full parallel port add-on, and I’ve seen a DB-9 serial port, but not a DB25 so far for the Portfolio.
Did you ever use it with anything other than the home automation system?
