trust me, i know how much you love robots babe

They’re two alternate takes based on some deep seated fears that Blue has. Business’s treatment of GCBC has made Blue deeply, deeply afraid of being a robot, because he was treated like one for ages, and it’s scarred him.

In the robot Powers route, Powers WAS a robot all along without knowing thanks to a chip that makes his mechanics (minus his ‘bionics’) seem like flesh and blood to him. It’s finally discovered by Rex looking a little too closely with Master Builder vision, which lets you see the parts everything can break down into. At one point, an old wound that Powers is sensitive about gets opened, and on a hatch above his power source is the Octan logo. It’s one of his absolute worst nightmares come to life!

In the robot Rex route, it’s Cosmo who sees that Rex isn’t organic, and Rex reacts... poorly. He has a lot of rambles about how much it makes sense (he was so obedient as Emmet, so compliant, so generic, so bland, all of it makes sense if he was just a robot off the assembly line) as he breaks down, because the realization comes with a redux of the “are my thoughts even my own” existential crisis that Rex had regarding The Man Upstairs. He eventually adjusts and ends up being kind of reckless with himself (mechanics can be repaired so much easier than flesh and blood), but he’s back to his normal self. He acts perfectly human, which means he’s perfectly stupid.

In both routes, the resident robot boy has both a) deep seated fears regarding if their loyalties are programmed in and b) a very unsettling factory default setting.

For Powers, he gets kind of paranoid that the reason he loves Rex could be that there’s programmed loyalty to members of Business’s bloodline, which Rex worries about in equal measure. His factory default makes him endlessly loyal to Business again, and he nearly wipes himself out of existence trying to make Business proud and bring him The Special.

For Rex, the worry is that he’s got programmed loyalties to Octan employees, and so his love for Powers could theoretically be that loyalty extrapolated onto a more human mindset. His factory default setting... is Emmet. It’s very, very unsettling to watch Rex acting and talking exactly like Emmet, and after he’s restored, he wants to claw his default settings out of himself, one digit of binary at a time.

They’re both pretty sad alternate takes, but the boys have each other, at least!

Please tell me about like father like son au

Like Father Like Son AU is basically an AU where instead of becoming Rex Dangervest post-Undar, Emmet becomes someone a lot more… Business-y. He takes on the name “Lee Venture” (Leader Emmet Essential + venture is both a name for a business endeavor and a risky journey), becoming kind of a Tony Stark figure in public as he conquers planets in private. Can’t be forgotten if you’re the one in charge, right?

It’s called “Like Father Like Son” because Lee takes a LOT from Business’s tactics and aesthetic, because he knows that it worked pretty damn well up until Business decided to be a dipshit who tried to freeze everything. Lee’s real clever and suave, but he’s an absolute bastard of a tyrant.

‘Space Madness’ is Cosmo, but affected by his own use of relics (we never decided which one outside of. jokes.). As opposed to seeing through time like Rex, or seeing through minds like Powers, he sees through dimensions, looking in on alternate timelines and dimensions in real time. He sees alternate paths, and the number of alternate paths in which Rex either dies to Powers or otherwise gets stolen away really chafes on Cosmo’s abandonment issues, and he gets... clingy. He becomes kind of volatile and extra dependent, keeping Rex from doing anything potentially harmful, especially seeing Powers. He’s trying to protect, but he goes... too far.

“Dark Benny” is kind of a joke au from a Hunger Games Simulator thing in which Benny went absolutely off the shits and kept blowing people up with explosives. “Dark Benny” is pretty volatile and loves explosives and he’s also very, very clingy towards Emmet. It’s a bout of space madness that’s lasted too long, and it’s... unpleasant to witness.

glasglow and crazy eyes GO

ah yes, the fun lads,

Glasgow is an alternate version of Powers! Red, specifically. @rnainframe and I tend to view relics as kind of cognitohazardous, so Glasgow comes about from Red using the Sword Of Exact Zero too much. It lets him see visions of the real world and view through other people’s eyes (normally Rex by default, which drives him up the wall), and the exposure to those kinds of visions slowly drives him mad and kind of... ax-crazy. He gets obsessed with pulling away from Rex’s mind via Closing Rex’s Eyes for good, and he keeps torturing people he suspects to be Rex in disguise. His name is ‘Glasgow’ for a reason, is all I’m sayin’. It’s pretty fucked!

Crazy Eyes is a similar kind of batshit, but from an alternate direction. Given Emmet’s visions in both films, we interpret him and Rex as being clairvoyant. Rex trains with his clairvoyance a lot to hone it, but after an incident in which his clairvoyance doesn’t show him something important and Cosmo almost gets shoved into space, he starts pushing his limits way too hard and accidentally breaks the barrier on that part of his mind entirely, granting himself full omniscience over timelines past, present, and future. He sees every single way that everything could branch, and the overwhelming nature of it drives him kind of insane. He’s a lot more pleasant than Glasgow, viewing everything as kind of funny, and he’s REALLY affectionate with Cosmo and Powers, but he’s got a horrific god complex and is unsettling to behold.

you know, in a way, megamind is a parallel of the lego batman movie; like think about it

megamind: villain in a rut solidly wins against his opponent, he loses his purpose for existing, he does something reckless to fill this void (which ultimately turns out poorly), and the conclusion of his story arc is about him finding fulfillment outside of his role as a villain, complete with him having romance with someone he was in direct opposition to at the beginning of the film

theres also the fact that both have:

a familial servant that they take for granted and grow to appreciate over the course of the film

a well developed female character with heavily sarcastic tendencies and the most logical mindset of the main cast

self aware heroes and villains who understand tropes

a villain gaining motive to destroy because of commentary from the protagonist

villains working as heroes/against other villains

the protagonist is ultimately kind but does villainous things for backstory reasons

Why are people getting so mad at Butch? I watched the video, and the only thing that like /might/ have discredited the trans headcanon was the tank top thing. I dont understand everyone's anger at him

There’s two videos; there’s the two minute crossover video (which is really fucking mediocre but good lord I am desperate) and then the 107 facts video

the former is a sloppy mediocre mess with pretty stilted writing and it emphasises the ‘butch is the George Lucas of Danny phantom’ vibe, but is harmless enough, if the latter half gets annoying once the other characters arrive

the latter gave me a Big Desire to say “fuck you butch” for very petty reasons bc seeing butch try to touch and retcon one of my favorite things upsets me; the ghosts are fucking ghosts butch, the show itself said so, learn your own lore. The trans Danny thing is certainly a big part of it, but honestly I think a bunch of people just don’t want butch to stick his sticky franchise ruining fingers into this perfectly good show that was Cancelled With Too Much Potential (not before its time, though; season three had seasonal rot, vlad’s character decayed, and phantom planet was a fucking mess. It died when it was meant to.)

i just wanted to say I really love your brief analysis on Future Edd's psychosis. I have a question, the part when Edd reads Tord's message to him "if he doesn’t comply, more than just cola will be taken from him" What is he referring to? Does it imply Tord is willing to harm Matt and Tom??

To some degree, but Matt and Tom have already been taken from Edd due to them joining Tord. The implication is that the only reason Edd is still alive and the Resistance still active is because Tord allows it. He’s got total control, he can essentially do as he wills, and the illusion of autonomy is simply that: an illusion. The note is meant to get Edd to realize that he’s only got one option: to join Tord. But Edd went a different direction. Tord is smart, but predicting that he’d go off the rails like that was beyond even him.
